I think you've missed the point of Kiteman's post.

Adding the velocity of the train with your velocity on the bike INSIDE the train, you get a combined velocity greater than the trains velocity.

I think I'm going with the same point, but I tend to refer to being "on a train" or "on a bus" or "on a plane" in the normal sense of being in the passenger compartment. Within the context of this post I do see the confusion, you'd not manage it on the roof no.
