How to Build a Computer

This step by step guide is intended for anyone that is looking to build their own computer. By doing this, you will be saving money and most likely having a pretty fast computer at the end of the process.

I have worked on computers for awhile in my past and I know the basic concept of constructing a workable computer that could be used for gaming or every day use.

The basic items you will be needing are listed here:

1. Case

2. Power supply

3. Motherboard

4. CPU

5. Hard drive

6. (Memory) Ram

7. CD-ROM drive

8. Operating system (New) Windows 8, XP, 7.. Etc.

9. Mouse & Keyboard

10. Speakers

11. Graphics Card

Step 1: Case & Power Supply

You will need to find a case first of all. Once you find one, make sure it has a working power supply in it so you can have power to all your devices.

Step 2: Place Motherboard in Case

Go head and locate the Motherboard you have bought and make sure it fits inside the case you have.

This is important because you will need room for your other devices to be inside too.

Step 3: CD-ROM & Hard Drive

Using the top level of your computer case, go head and insert your CD-ROM. Below on the very bottom,

that is where your Hard Drive will go after.

Step 4: CPU Installment

WARNING: BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO TOUCH CONNECTORS ON CPU WHEN INSTALLING.

As you can see, it is important not to touch the connections on your CPU when you install it. Also, it is important to make sure that your CPU is compatible with the Motherboard your had bought.

Step 5: RAM Installment

Find the Ram chips you had bought and insert them on to the Motherboard. As you can see in the first picture if you are having a hard time locating where they are.

Step 6: Plug in Your Graphics Card

Get your graphics card and make sure to put it into a PCI slot on the mother board. The picture shows where to do that at.

Step 7: Find Your Connectors and Plug Them In.

From your power supply there will be many different connectors that go to all your devices. Make sure you have the following from the picture.

Step 8: Connect Your SATA Connectors to Your Hardrive

Step 9: Power Supply Connector to MotherBoard

Step 10: Make Sure All Devices Are Plugged in Properly and Secure.

Step 11: Start Up Your Computer and See If It Turns On.

Check to see all the lights are on properly and there are no complications when it boots up.

Step 12: Configure the BIOS

When you first start up your computer, you should see a boot screen of some type for a brief moment.

At this screen you can usually hit the “Delete” key on your keyboard in order to enter the BIOS.

You can really do some damage to your PC if you do not know what you are doing so pay close attention.

One of the only things you might want to change at this screen is the boot order that your PC uses when starting up. You will want your PC to load your solid state drive first.

Step 13: Install Operating System

Once your BIOS is all setup, you will need to get your copy of which ever operating system your purchased and let it run on your system.

Step 14: Check to See If All Devices Are Working.

Once your operating system Is installed, you will need to check your system and make sure all the devices are functional.

Step 15: Get Updated Anti-Virus and Firewall Installed

After your computer is working and your good to go. Go out and invest into a decent Anti-Virus program to keep your computer safe and free from hackers.

You did it!

After all that work, you had just made yourself a functional computer. Always stay on top of updates for your system, avoid pop ups on the internet, and make sure you have that Anti-Virus installed. Computer problems will arise eventually, so make sure you are prepared for it! Good luck with your new computer.
