How to Build a Time Machine (Vortex Distortion Space and Time Dilating Device)  by gmjhowe
Featured
Well lets put it this way, ive always had this thing about traveling through time, and having a time machine. So i set about making one, i decided that instead of being a vessel to travel in, i would rather have something portable.

Many hours thinking i came to a conclusion. If im going to be traveling through time, the actual time machine would have to be timeless (not out of place in the past, present day, or the future)

So eventually i decided to make something that resembled a time piece, mixed with an old compass, and various other inspirations, some from various steam punk items.

However i did not want to make something that was steam punk, as i personally find alot of steam punk to be a bit over comic like, and a bit to fantastical.

So, heres how i did it.

Materials consist of -

Alot of scrap and junk
corrugated cardboard
Mount card
PVA glue
Super glue
Black paint
Spray paint
Leather
Wood
Some thicker mount card
A few Special oddments - for me this was the lenses.

Step 1: Building a base

Photo-0096.jpg
Ok, now the base of my time machine was modeled around two ring type peices of metal, and as with the rest of the -ible, you kinda have to work things out for yourself too!
Firstly, i set about cutting out some ring shaped pieces of card, As you can see from the pics below.

Obviously, you could just create this thing from scratch using cardboard. But i think a good scavinge can always turn a good result - The metal sections in the first picture are off an old repromaster! bout 20,000 pounds worth of kit in there day ( we recently scraped ours)

I basically used these as a shape to trace onto the card.

Cut as many as you like to give it a good depth that your happy with.

I recommend corrugated card as it is easily to get a thick depth, its easy to cut, and great for gluing in later steps.

:( how does it work...:(????????
SockKreature says: Oct 17, 2011. 10:44 PM
It works by distorting the time realm in half and forcing a gateway through to the past. It then merges the two dimensions until the two parts, you and the watch, are successfully transported.

SockKreature (or do you prefer William?),

What if there's more than one person? Would each one have to have their own watch?

Where did you learn all of this anyway?
DeceptibotX says: Mar 24, 2012. 6:59 AM
Geez, I'd love to see it in actiopn. PLEASE tell me you are not bluffing! There have been two dreams I've had; time traveling and touching the cosmos.
Alecia294167 says: Feb 22, 2012. 6:12 PM
It only describes going into The Past , Does It work for going into The future ??
gmjhowe (author) says: Feb 23, 2012. 6:44 AM
It does indeed! The time machine was originally about a metre long, like a tall cylinder, going to the future allowed me to install a compression filter, which reduces the time machine into the more slim line size you see today.
Butter634 says: Jul 6, 2012. 1:56 PM
It really couldn't take you to the future because in order for the time machine to take you anywhere, you would have had to live through that time or have a very good knowledge of what happened there. So, unless you made a time machine in the future and used it to get back to the current time, and THEN went BACK to the future, you wouldn't be able to time travel to the future.
totusvoloestmei says: May 16, 2013. 8:00 PM
Makes more sense to me than the other way around which is what the popular theory is. The past has already happened. We know it's there. The future doesn't exist yet.

Then again...if we went to the past..I guess we would be from "the future".

I'm not saying travelling to the future is necessarily impossible, just saying it seems more improbable than travel to the past, and yet the popular opinion is the opposite.

Will this time machine take my back to 12 13 12?
kaynien15 says: Dec 9, 2010. 8:36 PM
This is bull, I was only able to back to the time I finished making it. I just want to go back 24 hours, that's all. How can I do this?
SockKreature says: May 16, 2011. 12:38 PM
Haha! Thats what happened to me when i made it to. I was so bummed but i realized how do fix this problem! Under the glass lens place a time space continuum crystalized portal apparatus specifically cut to to circular size of the lens on yours. Then solder a wire on the middle of the crystal and drill a hole on the middles of the lens. Run the wire through the hole and seal the lens back on and solder the other end of the wire to the metal rim around the lens. Seal it up and turn it on and you should be good to go! Works great for me!

Note: The crystal that is in mine was surprisingly powerful enough to go back a full 72 hours! Good luck.

Excuse me, am I able to make a time machine out of a mobile phone (I have two phones, an LG B2000 and a HTC Desire HD) and if so, am I able to go back a few weeks or months?
SockKreature says: Oct 23, 2012. 5:19 PM
Phones would be for more of a teleportation device but it could be possible to use some parts for a time machine.

-William
totusvoloestmei says: May 16, 2013. 7:35 PM
You should do an instructable about using phones as a teleportation device.
totusvoloestmei says: May 16, 2013. 7:35 PM
That was for SockKreature, btw.
bsmith80 says: Oct 5, 2011. 7:43 PM
Does that really work!?
ejwhite25 says: Sep 24, 2011. 5:19 PM
Where do you get a a time space continuum crystalized portal apparatus
SockKreature says: Oct 2, 2011. 9:38 AM
Would you like me to post a picture of the crystal as a reference?
-William
ejwhite25 says: Oct 3, 2011. 4:12 PM
Yes i would
SockKreature says: Oct 5, 2011. 10:44 PM
Here is a photo of the crystal. This crystal is dead, however, a live crystal looks the same but with a slight "glow". The crystal is also covered in a metallic glitter type substance, which makes it a little easier to find. they usually come small so look VERY CAREFULLY, the one in the photo is the biggest I've ever found.
hope this helped,
William

SockKreature, does this type of crystal have a name?

Like..if I went to a spirit shop, etc., what would I say I was looking for?

Also, it looks blue in the picture, but the whole photo appears blue. Is that its actual colour (looks a bit like lapis lazuli.)?

I am thinking I have seen these stones you and the Bandogge are desribing in nature before, but they were more of a charcoal grey or black in colour. Does the colouring vary? If they're the right ones I'm going to be really annoyed with myself for never keeping any of them (!) as I currently live quite far from any place I think I'd find any. Unless you think I could find some at an old quarry?

Not really any spirit shops or anything around either, so might they be available anywhere else besides that? Online somewhere perhaps?
The Bandogge says: Mar 27, 2013. 12:31 PM
O i have a bunch of those
DeceptibotX says: Mar 24, 2012. 7:34 AM
Where do you find it?
SockKreature says: Sep 25, 2011. 11:47 PM
Most of the time you can get it at your local Spirit shop or village. If you don't have one then you're going to have to find one... I found mine at the heart of a forest near a stream. Make sure when you are looking for it though, that you aren't hoping to find it. Just explore the area. You'll get the hang of it. Hope this helped!

I found mine at a rift in alaska. The void (witch is the stream of wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff) leaks debris into certain parts of the world these are called rifts. Many stones and crystals are there and are soaked with void energy if you assemble your time device correctly you can adjust where in time you travel to. Amounts of energy vary with size of the stone which means the amount of times you can use it varies but you shouldn't have to worry about running out of energy because even a stone that weighs only 1 gram can be used about 600this times.
totusvoloestmei says: May 16, 2013. 7:44 PM
The Bandogge,

Can you go into more detail on this?
PK2PK2 says: Oct 25, 2012. 10:31 PM
Where can I find a time space continuum crystalized portal apparatus in Australia (Melbourne)?
SockKreature says: Oct 26, 2012. 4:11 PM
Wherever there's a somewhat large natural body of water usually, with lots of trees as well.
totusvoloestmei says: May 16, 2013. 7:45 PM
SockKreature,

Does it absolutely have to be somewhere like this? And does it have to be done out of doors?
PK2PK2 says: Dec 5, 2012. 9:04 AM
Are there any examples of large bodies of water where I can find a crystal in Australia?
357awc says: Sep 17, 2011. 8:00 PM
That maybe correct but a better way of going about would be to use the decay of time partials to use Diaphan's Principle to go anywhere in the time stream. It maybe much harder to activate but it is very worth is.
totusvoloestmei says: May 16, 2013. 7:49 PM
357awc,

What is Diaphan's Principle? I looked it up but could not find any information on it anywhere. In layman's terms if possible? Thanks. :)

Can you explain decay of time partials as well? (partials? not particle? what are time partials?)

I know that's a lot of questions, but I haven't heard these terms before and really want to understand what you're talking about.
SockKreature says: Sep 25, 2011. 11:49 PM
True... Very true... That would be very worth it and I bet it would lengthen the timespan you can travel back to! I must research this immediately and will announce my progress along the way. You sir are a true genius!

-William
357awc says: May 14, 2012. 4:36 PM
the only problem with that is the inacuracy of reverse pinging the timesteam to locate the quantum fluxuation there for resulting in quantum abnormalities.
totusvoloestmei says: May 16, 2013. 7:50 PM
please explain this one too if you can, lol.

we don't all speak science. :(
