How to Burn tapes with a Green laser pointer

How to Burn tapes with a Green laser pointer
Simply showing you how to do a simple green laser test: burn black tapes. Though most laser lover may have tried to do the similar test such as burning tape, pop balloon or light match, not all of them do it well, so here I wanna share the test I once made.
Forgive me for not making the video myself.

Step 1A piece of black tape..

a piece of black tape..
Here "black" turns to be the much preferred color for burning, coz it's said that black color can absorb the maximum green laser beam.

This isn't exactly an Instructable. It's just showing us that green lasers can cut through black electrical tape. Besides, there cheaper ways to do this with regular red lasers that have been slightly modified. Your laser cost over $450, the same can be done for less than $30.

Well, just how can it be done with a red laser for 30-45 dollars? You have piqued my curiosity...

you can use a 2w LED flashlight. Lasers are more costly though the laser diode doesnot cost much.

Wrong its at least 45. Don't lie about prices.

Umm..no.

The site that he linked to: http://www.laserto.com/green-laser-pointer.html, sells the exact laser he said he owns. He says it's the Gehenna series 200mw laser and it cost ~$465. It's right here, scroll down to the 200mw:
http://www.laserto.com/green-laser-pointer-125mw-150mw-200mw-250mw-300mw.html

I know, you can buy a cheap green laser, but not one that's capable of cutting anything.

these lasers are all too overrated, and the TOPLASER series green laser (focusable key switch) at http://www.laserpointerpen.net is able to cut tape, light match or even cigarette when you pinpoint the focus. Not that bulky, either. Just don't spend so much money on a hyped laser.

Also worth noting is the fact that this isn't actually using the green light at all but the unwanted IR produced. The amount of IR produced allegedly falls off sharply after using the laser for a few hours. newyorker: are any of the images or videos in either of your Instructables actually yours?

yeah, a green laser or blue laser, if not ir filtered, it's hard to define its real power, coz maybe a 200mw green laser has 150mw infrared 1064 power. I suggest all of us should watch out for shoddy lasers like we watch out for eye damage when using a laser. If you want a pure 532nm green laser that is powerful and also at good price, i recommend you choose the 150mw green laser of TOPLASER series, and it's at http://laserpointerpen.net/295-150mw-green-laser-torch-toplaser-series.html . It cost me $239.99, but now it's $198, lol..Anyway, the guys there are nice.

then you perhaps can do it with incandescent lamp ? or the magic is in that the ir is laser radiation too ? (is it ?)

i bet it.
Oct 15, 2008. 4:11 PMS1L3N7 SWAT says:
Yeah, that's the reason why it only works with black colored objects because it absorbs all the light. Still not as impressive as the laser flashlight though, I couldn't even tell that the laser was even doing anything to the tape in his video. Didn't seem to cut it very well, although I'm not expecting it the slice through like a lightsaber, but the wood burning laser probably would have done it in no time.

or even cheaper with scissors!
