The fish aren't a fan of this step. Start out by turning off the aquarium's filter and removing any lights and covers that may be on top of the fish tank.

You are now going to take an aquarium net and chase your fish one by one until they are caught in the net. You will then lift the fish out of the tank very quickly, and transfer them into the bowl that you set up in the previous step. They will not like this at all and will do their best to avoid the net, so you have to be fast. Once you get them into the bowl, push the net inside out so the fish do not get caught in it.

Right after the transfer, the fish won't look too well. They will be in shock since you suddenly deprived them of water to breath, took them on a trip through the air, and placed them in a much smaller bowl of water that they aren't used too. They will probably mope along the bottom of the bowl for a while, but normally after a few hours they are swimming around again like normal.

Add some food to the bowl right after you move the fish so they have something to eat if they get hungry.
