Fish poop.
When the fish poop, it either gets eaten and re-digested a second time, or it falls to the bottom of the tank and gets buried in the gravel. That is why the vacuum end of the siphon is so helpful. As the water is being sucked out of the aquarium, move it around sticking into different areas of the gravel. You will be amazed on all of the buried fish poop that you see getting pulled up and out of the tank in this aquarium tractor beam...
