How to Clean a Fish Tank...

Step 6Clean the rocks...

Clean the rocks...
If you have any sort of decorations in your tank, whether it be a rock, fake plant, or a plastic shipwreck, I would recommend you clean these up while your tank is empty. Bring them to a sink and scrub them with some paper towels and water. If you have an algae problem, you will probably have to scrub a lot more than I did.

If you feel you need to use soap, make sure it is a neutral, fragrance free soap. Also be sure to think of how porous whatever you are cleaning is. The majority of the rocks in my fish tank are actually glass slag rather than rock, so the soap doesn't get absorbed into the glass and comes off easily. A limestone rock may be a different story. Think about it before you use the soap...
