Introduction: How to Create and Manage a YouTube Playlist
The goal of these instructions is to enable you to create and manage a YouTube video playlist. We hope that this tutorial will help students and business professionals to streamline their presentations. Unlike the “My Favorites” option, creating a playlist allows you to isolate a subset of videos and play them in sequence. In order to successfully complete this tutorial, you must have basic knowledge of the internet and the ability to create a YouTube account of your own.
Step 1: Finding Videos
a. Begin by logging in to your YouTube account or by creating a new one.
b.Search for a video—this can be done by typing keywords into the white search bar at the top of your screen. For example, “famous baseball moments”.
Step 2: Starting Your Playlist
a. Click the “Search” button to retrieve a list of videos related to your topic. Select a video from the list by clicking on the video thumbnail.
b. If you wish to add the video you selected to your playlist, begin by clicking the downward pointing arrow next to the “Add to” button and select the “New playlist…” option from the drop down menu.
Step 3: Naming Your Playlist
Enter a name for the playlist and press the “enter” button on your keyboard.
Step 4: Adding More Videos to Your Playlist
If you wish to add more videos to your playlist, repeat steps 1b and 2a. After clicking the downward arrow next to the “Add to” option, select the name of the previously created playlist instead of clicking the “New playlist…” option. This video will now be added to your playlist.
Step 5: Accessing Your Playlist
a. To access your playlist, click on your username at the top right of your screen.
b. From the drop down menu, click on “My Videos”.
Step 6: Selecting Your Playlist
Click on your playlist in the column on the left side of your screen.
Step 7: Playing Your Playlist
Click the “Play all” button directly above the thumbnail of your first video; this will cause your videos to play in succession.
Step 8: Removing and Rearranging Videos in Your YouTube Playlist
a. To access your playlist, click on your username at the top right of your screen.
b. From the drop down menu, click on “My Videos”.
c. Select your playlist from the column on the left side of your screen.
d. To rearrange the order your videos play in, click on the number box next to the video you wish to move. A small grey rectangle will appear. Change the number in the white box to correspond with the desired placement of the video. Now click “Move”.
e. To remove a video, first check the gray box to the left of the video you wish to delete. Then, click the “Remove” button located above your playlist. The video will be removed. Do NOT click the “Delete Playlist” button.
