How to Crochet a Slouchy Hat

Supplies: Medium/Worsted Weight yarn, US H8/5.00mm, US G6/4.00mm, tapestry needle, scissors

Note: Chain 3 always counts as the first DC

Instructions:

Using the H 5.00mm hook, start with a magic loop

Round 1: Chain 3, 11 DCs in the ring; join to top of chain 3 and pull magic loop tight-12 stitches

Round 2: Chain 3, DC in the same stitch, (2 DCs in the next stitch) repeat around; join into the top of the chain 3 stitch-24 stitches

Round 3: Chain 3, DC in the same stitch, (DC in next 2 stitches, 2 DCs in next stitch) repeat around; join into the top of the chain 3 stitch-32 stitches

Round 4: Chain 3, 2 DCs in the next stitch, (DC in the next 3 stitches, 2 DCs in next stitch) repeat around; join into the top of the chain 3 stitch-40 stitches

Round 5: Chain 3, 2 DCs in the next stitch, (DC in the next 4 stitches, 2 DCs in next stitch) repeat around; join into the top of the chain 3 stitch-48 stitches

Round 6: Chain 3, 2 DCs in the next stitch, (DC in the next 5 stitches, 2 DCs in next stitch) repeat around; join into the top of the chain 3 stitch-56 stitches

Round 7: Chain 3, 2 DCs in the next stitch, (DC in the next 6 stitches, 2 DCs in next stitch) repeat around; join into the top of the chain 3 stitch-64 stitches

Round 8: Chain 3, 2 DCs in the next stitch, (DC in the next 7 stitches, 2 DCs in next stitch) repeat around; join into the top of the chain 3 stitch-72 stitches

Round 9: Chain 3, 1 DC in each stitch around, join into the top of the chain 3 stitch-72 stitches

Rounds 10-20: Repeat Row 9; join into the top of the chain 3 stitch Note: This is where you can add or remove rows if you want your hat to be smaller and less slouchy or bigger and slouchier.

Rounds 21: Change to the G 4.00mm hook, in back loop only, HDC in each DC stitch around

Rounds 22-23: Repeat Row 21 Note: Make the edging shorter or longer by adding or subtracting rows.

Cut a 3-inch tail and fasten off with an invisible join.
