Picture of How to Enter the Homemade Holidays 2007 Contest

Winners announced! See who won here!

The holidays are coming!

It's the time to visit the family, give gifts, and prepare for a brand new year.
Instead of asking "what to buy" this year, you should be asking "what to make" for your friends and loved ones. Homemade presents can be truly unique, and avoid the icky question of how much to spend on each person.

Use your skills and imagination to make some wonderful things -- we want to see them!
That's why we're teaming up with our friends from CRAFT magazine to host the Homemade Holidays 2007 Contest.

Enter your crafty and creative item, and win cool stuff from Instructables and CRAFT!

First Prize -- Three (3) winners
CRAFT Boxed Gift Set, an Instructables robot T-shirt, a CRAFT T-shirt, and a laser-cut Robot holiday ornament.

Second Prize -- Five (5) winners
One-year subscription to CRAFT Magazine, an Instructables robot T-shirt, a CRAFT T-shirt, and a laser-cut Robot holiday ornament.

Third Prize -- Ten (10) winners
CRAFT: Volume 5 and a laser-cut Robot holiday ornament.

Slideshow/Video Prize -- Ten (10) winners
CRAFT: Volume 5, a CRAFT T-shirt, and a laser-cut Robot holiday ornament.

How to Enter

- Make a great Instructable, slideshow, or video that shows how to make some great presents
- Add your Instructable, slideshow, or video to the Homemade Holidays group

Only projects posted since December 1st, 2007 are eligible. If you've already posted a suitable Instructable, make another iteration with improvements and submit it to the contest! Post an improved version of someone else's Instructable with a link back to your source of inspiration!

Any Instructable, slideshow, or video that documents a homemade gift and is added to the Homemade Holidays group is eligible. Bonus points for introduction steps that clearly summarize the project and explain why your gift is perfect for the person receiving it. We'd love to see some neat projects by and/or for kids.

Our new flickr uploader makes it even easier to upload your pictures for Instructables or slideshows.

Project Submission Deadline: All entries must be published and entered in the Homemade Holidays group by 11:59 pm PST January 13, 2008.

Results: Winners will be announced on January 22, 2008.

You can only win one prize per contest, but enter as many projects as you like and cross-post to other contests!

International entries are eligible -- we're happy to ship prizes abroad.

When will the winners be selected and announced? I'm just like a child waiting for Christmas!
I was about to ask the exact same thing, when will the winners be selected, and then announced?
I was just about to ask that! That's why I came here.
Me too. I came to look for a link that might have said, "Check out the winners!" But, there was not, so I ask away!
I'm about to explode! There were a lot of great Instructables to choose from! I just want to know if I'm going to have to make my own robot ornament. (highly likely) :P
I went back to the opening page (How to enter) and it says that winner will be notified on January 22, 2008. Hold on! The announcement is coming!!!!

Do we get to choose the color of the ornament if/when we win?
noahw CameronSS7 years ago
If there is going to be just one color available - is it really a choice? Sorry to get deep. No, there will not be a color choice.

*sigh.* I was seriously going to enter my mom's present. Just ran into one little snag: the dang thing still isn't done! Oh, well. That's what next year is for, right?

Bummer. I did all the work of creating something interesting, taking photos, and typing out instructions, but could not get the photos to upload tonight. I kept getting Java "ERROR 500: com.instructables.exception.UnknownTypeException: Cannot determine type of Authorable; 'type' is 'null'". I should have tried to make an instructable earlier. The contest deadline just passed, so all my work was for not, in this case. If anyone knows how I can fix the error problem, please tell me how. Without being able to upload photos, there is no hope for me ever creating an instructable. I didn't find anything when I searched "help."
Know how you feel...

I've had the hardest time getting my camera to talk with my new Vista craptop, then a bunch of delays as I was getting familiar with the instructables upload system.

The upshot: I only *just* submitted my first instructable, well past the deadline (not to mention my bedtime - busy day tomorrow).

Ah well, I added my instructable to the Group anyway. I'll just throw myself to the mercy of the court - maybe they'll take pity on me, and still include it in the contest.

If not - well, I was going to publish it anyway, contest or no contest...
Oh, I've got to think of an Instructable fast, I didn't know that slideshows were Craft T-shirts, and not Instructables.

wait, how do you enter? i can't figure it out. I made all my gifts by hand this year (which took a lot of time but was so worth it)
When you publish a new instructable you'll see a screen where you can choose what contests you want to enter it into. If it's already published, there's a green box that you can see on the instructable page to join a contest.
Dang it, I just looked at this contest again and realized that there is no chance of a person to win by getting chosen randomly from a cardboard box... looks like I better get to work!
i want to do this so bad, because i really want an instructables t-shirt

How do you enter a slideshow into the group? I can't seem to get it to work...
Looks like you got it in. Any other problems?
Nope - worked like a charm. However, I do have one other question - can we enter the same project as a slideshow and an instructable (separate publications)? Also, is it possible to insert a slideshow into an instructable?
You can enter both if you want. It'll help in that the Instructable will be easier to read. You can't embed a slideshow in an instructable.

How about some unique home made gift wrapping that can be used forever? Would that qualify? I'm going to post it anyway, as soon as I get some more parts for it.

I think someone is going to get a couple of extra gifts this year.

Coo, I've got four ideas!

how does judging work?
It'll be judged by staff here at Instructables and CRAFT.
good, I don't like the kind of judging where it depends on ratings, it just isn't fair when it depends on ratings
