How to Enter the Thanksgiving Reuse Challenge

Winners can be seen here.

Thanksgiving is about family, food, and a general culture of excess (at least in the US). Whether it's endless piles of turkey and mashed potatoes, empty cans from pumpkin and relish, airplane ticket stubs, or just shopping bags from Black Friday, the holiday produces leftovers of all sorts.

What will you do for Thanksgiving, and what creative things will you do with these Thanksgiving left-overs?

Whether you make an awesome turkey soup, sculpt the mashed potatoes, rig a string-and-tin-can phone, fold ticket-stub origami, or knit plastic bags into leg warmers, take pictures and show everyone how it's done.

True Thanksgiving projects are also eligible, so submit your favorite recipes, games, and constructions for the holiday. (Yes, I'm looking at you, turkey tek!)

Canadians already had their Thanksgiving, and the rest of you may not even know what we're going on about, so check out last year's contest to get into the spirit of things.

Since this is a short contest, we're letting the audience judge! Find the entries here and rate your favorite projects so we know what you like. Vote for as few or as many as you like- it's up to you. Only positive votes will count in this contest! We're not including ballot stuffing or negative votes, so overvoting or voting down your competitor's projects is both unsporting and useless.

We'll judge based on the standings at noon PST on Thursday, December 6, so everyone will have time to check out and vote on even the latest entries. Results will be posted shortly thereafter.

How to Enter

- Make something awesome that's related to Thanksgiving in any way and share it on Instructables.
- Add it to the Thanksgiving Reuse Challenge group by 11:59pm PST, Sunday December 2.
- Add the keyword "thanksgiving07" to your Instructable (you can do so after it's published by scrolling down to the "keyword" box at the bottom of the right-hand sidebar and adding the tag), and click on that keyword to see how yours stacks up.

Prizes

Rating Prizes:
The five Instructables with the highest rating will win an Instructables Robot t-shirt.
The Instructable with the highest rating will also receive a laser-engraved cutting board.

Page Views Prize:
The Instructable with the greatest number of pageviews will receive an Instructables Robot t-shirt and a laser-engraved cutting board.

Random Prize:
We'll conduct a random drawing from the remaining pool of entries, and one lucky winner will receive an Instructables Robot t-shirt and a laser-engraved cutting board.

Details

Only projects posted during the contest period are eligible. If you've already submitted a suitable Instructable, make another iteration with improvements and submit it to the contest! Post an improved version of someone else's Instructable with a link back to your source of inspiration!

We're looking for neat and creative projects, so let your imagination run wild.

Project Submission Deadline: 11:59pm PST, Sunday December 2
Audience Judging Deadline: noon PST on Thursday, December 6

Fine Print:
You can only win one prize per contest, but enter as many projects as you like and cross-post to other contests!

International entries are eligible- we're happy to ship our t-shirts abroad.

If you're under 18, go ahead and submit your project- we'll just need your parents' OK if you win.

If only I wasn't getting my teeth pulled for Thanksgiving... Our Thanksgiving is always so bland, maybe I can mix it up a bit this year. Now all I need is inspiration...
Nov 14, 2007. 5:41 AMcanida says:
Hey, make sure they give you the teeth after they're pulled and you can do something neat with reused teeth. How awesome would that be?
Nov 17, 2007. 9:10 AMAdalei says:
That would be -way- awesome. I was thinking earrings or something, since they're all round and don't look like teeth yet. I'll ask about that :D

Before or after?!? that's bloody horrible either way... If it's after, at least you'll be full... oh wait, if it's major surgery, you have to fast... If it's before, at least there's always cranberry jell-o...
Nov 13, 2007. 5:59 PMSeiko125 says:
Does it have to be food or can it be something else related to thanksgiving that isn't edible?
Nov 14, 2007. 5:40 AMcanida says:
It definitely doesn't have to be food- be imaginative!

Yes Turkey Tek - I want to see a cranberry sauce Volcano of epic proportions!

I'm doing my best to convince my family to do an off themed thanksgiving... An anachronistic thanksgiving - a turkey with a laser eye... Or an FSM inspired thanksgiving :D Now that would be a thanksgiving, with balls :)
