How to Grow Huge Gummy Bears by cupcake811
004.JPG
Growing gummy bears is a fun! All you have to do is leave gummy bears in water, and the grow to be gigantic! Anyone will find this fun, so give it a try! It is fun just to grow them, but it can also be used as an educational activity. I did this in science class. We measured the length, width, height, mass, etc. of the bears after leaving them in water for different amounts of time.

Do NOT eat these because they become full of bacteria! They taste bad, too.

While your gummy bears are growing, be sure to listen to the gummy bear song!

love it! i did this too when i was younger, but now that im older, i dont use water......it tastes better with juice and/or "adult" liquids. just put it in the fridge. in a plastic bag, a bowl or cup with a cover, (the best is a flat pan so all are covered evenly with liquid). make sure to cover all the bears with double+ the amount of liquid(1/3 bears 2/3 liquid, etc), they will soak it all up in 24-48 hours. ;) mine tripled in size!

to make life-size gummy bears ,melt heaps of gummy bears and pour it into a huge mold and wait until it is set and put the huge gummy bear in a bathtub full of water and wait.

sheepborg says: Oct 4, 2009. 2:11 PM
does this work with other things like fruit-snacks?
cupcake811 (author) says: Oct 4, 2009. 4:08 PM
Probably, since they contain gelatin.
pgravance says: Sep 18, 2011. 6:04 PM
*AWESOME!!!!!*:)i must try this
iBeCookie says: Apr 13, 2010. 6:38 PM
Well, you see, I used gummy worms. I just put them in. It's for a science project. We're supposed to sell them, and we need 5 reasons why people should buy them, any suggsetions? And, they don't contain gelatin... they are jelly though, but they don't have gelatin since I can't eat gelatin. Will it still work?

cupcake811 (author) says: Oct 5, 2009. 2:22 PM
Tell me how it works! Attatch pictures if you can. Did you use gummy bears or fruit snacks?
sheepborg says: Oct 5, 2009. 4:10 PM
my fruitsnack epic failed 100% it turned looking like a dead green thing and did not grow D: i must get gummy bears to do this properly
ronmaggi says: Dec 28, 2009. 11:58 PM
Fruit snacks tend to use pectin as the gumming agent. While it does absorb some water, it certainly doesn't hold up like gelatin.

Thanks for clarifying. That makes sense.
cupcake811 (author) says: Oct 5, 2009. 7:16 PM
I think the fruit juice messed it up. Gummy bears will work. I wonder if gummy worms would work. If they did, thate would be really cool!
iBeCookie says: Apr 13, 2010. 6:39 PM
I'm trying it with fruit juice. And with lemon juice.
sheepborg says: Oct 5, 2009. 8:50 PM

Thanks! I did this in science class. It was so much fun! We did it as a science experiment, so we recorded the mass, dimensions, volume, and density every two minutes for 20 minutes until we left them in for 24 hours.
nena457 says: May 11, 2011. 11:19 AM
