How to Inject Custom Songs into Guitar Hero III or Aerosmith on any Wii

NOTE!! COOLDAVID08 has been nice enough to inform us of how we can burn our (legally obtained, of course) wii iso files to dvd+r discs. This will help if you want to use lightscribe dvds, but i dont know the quality. i bought some clearence 10 pack of dvd-r and after 8 minutes of playing, yes i timed it, i would get a disc read failure. anyway, here is what COOLDAVID08 said:

"I have burned 5 wii games succesfully using Imgburn and my laptops intergrated dvd burner. What Imgburn does by changing the booktype is it tricks the wii into reading the DVD+R disk as a DVD-R disk. I dont know if all DVD drives suport it but you go to burn an image and pop in you disk then check the information it should be at DVD+R default. What you do is click on a little yellow open book icon and find your brand of DVD Burner then you change your booktype to DVD-ROM."

In this instructable, you will learn how to install custom songs into a guitar hero 3 legends of rock or guitar hero Aerosmith iso, which can be played on a hard or soft modded nintendo wii. if you dont know what wii homebrew is, or have never heard of a mod chip, Thundaboy1047 would be happy to explain how to homebrew enable your wii. Click here to get to his instructable, and once you have succsefully gotten your wii homebrew enabled, it needs to be able to run backups. A backup is basically the iso taken from an official disk burned to a blank dvd-r. thundaboy also has an ible on this, located right here . after you are done there, you are ready to move to the next step. if you have a modchip, just goto step 1.

Step 1: Supplies list

You will need the following to complete this instructable with sucsess:

1. A wii capable of running homebrew.
2. a computer capable of burning data to a dvd-r. you can download imgburn here .
3. a program called "the ghost". you can download that by going to this page.
4. For the ghost to run, you need codecs. codecs allow your computer to encode, decode, and play music and video of various file extension formats. im sure you have heard of mp3, or mp4, but have you ever heard of ogg audio, or flv video? when you download frets on fire song packs use ogg audio and if you dont have the codecs installed, ghost will not function. period. Vista for windows vista. XP for windows xp. if you have linux with wine installed, you may be able to use the ghost, but unfortunately for mac users, ur screwed cus the ghost isnt made for mac... at least not that im aware of. you can google the ghost mac and see what pops up.
5. A guitar hero 3 or aerosmith nintendo wii ISO file. i dont think that i am legally allowed to distribute a link for this one because that would make me a "piracey promoter" and im a good person. i owned my game before i dumped it.
6. Some frets on fire song folders. go here, make an account, and browse by artist to get song folders.

I have a legal copy of Guitar Hero : Aerosmith for the Wii, how can I obtain the ISO file from my disc?

to get it FROM =the disc, you will need to go through waaaayyyyyy too much trouble than its worth.. either doing a wifi dump through the wii that is prone to failing, or doing it bit by bit over flashdrive. i say just go to a website that the name goes like this:  first "wii" then "so" then ".com" and as long as you own the game its perfectly alright.

I have a question. Can I use Windows Disc Image Burner (built-in to Windows 7) instead of IMGBurn? Site looks suspicious.

i use imgburn because it has never failed. even on my netbook with win7 i still use imgburn because of the amount of options it allows. here is the link to the legit site www.imgburn.com/ and if you still dont want to trust it then check if windows image burner supports changing the write speed because IT MUST BE AT 3X. that is all.

I opened the tools folder.
when i click on the 'Audio setup' folder en try to instal wavdest, it says i can't open it.
I got this code: 0x80070005
When i try to instal xbadpcm it just opens a pad and doesn't do anything...
Am i just doing it wrong or did i miss something?

When i click next on the first page with the project settings, i get an error message saying 'can't import songs from iso'. What's wrong?

When i'm installing the xbadpcm, windows says i should stop. should i continue anyway?

its not a virus because norton didnt pick it up. norton disabled all of the windows protection soo no interference. Yes you should comtinue if you want custom songs

I fretted (added notes to) my own songs with this great program called EOF, it takes MP3s, and then you add the notes, and when it saves it, it saves it in the Frets on Fire Format.

You could also use the computer (All OSes) program called Frets on fire to test out your songs with a keyboard or USB guitar.

My First Song was Boats 'N Hoes from Step Brothers. I FRETTED IT MYSELF AND TAKE ALL CREDIT. heres the song folder:

ok, i love the song and i am learning how to use the software. i will upload what i have done in the test song so far. just one question though, how to you set up hammer ons and pull offs?

i just ran through the song and its perfectly fretted! if thats your first song, you did a really great job. i know i had to adjust the offset of about 18 of my other songs from other people AT LEAST. so eof eh, ill go grab that right away, but before i do, how long did that song take you?

I catually used Freetar Hero for the first half, converted and got it working in EOF because FH isnt as supported, and EOF can do 1/32 or 1/48 of a fret. Its a short song though, so it only took me and my friends 1 afternoon. We copied and pasted the chorus, so it made it easier. But whats a hammer on and pull off?

hammer on and pull of is where the notes are white in the center, and you can hit them without having to strum.

P.S. When you are editing the name and adding the OGG files, make sure to put the Song Volume and Guitar Volume as greater than 1, because at 0, it was very hard to hear. Its a very HQ song though (from iTunes Store)

ok thanks. i might run it through mp3gain just to make sure though : ) i think i should have done that with all of my songs before hand. it starts off by making all of the songs in the work directory the same volume, then allowing you to change them up or down all at a time, or individually. takes a while though, even with only 300 songs. i wonder how long it will take when i let it loose on my 1644 song ipod directory haha. itunes says it takes 36.9 days (no joke 3, 6, 9) to listen to it all. 5.7 gigs.

I think itunes was on drugs the day i gave you the info of my library.i have 1540 songs at 5.4 gigabytes and it takes 192.6 days to listen.

Well I did use audacity to do a 15DB gain, but it F++Ked up the quality, so i used normal volume and set the volume change in theGHOST

well, i dont have a modchip and i followed thundaboy's instructable which i listed at the beggining of this one, and i have about 20 backups of my scratched discs and 10 custom guitar heros. you need to run your burned disc through the channel called backup channel and it is wiigators backup launcher gamma. just go to this link: http://www.instructables.com/id/Run_Backups_on_any_Wii_Without_a_Modchip/ if you dont have a homebrew wii, go http://www.instructables.com/id/Hack_any_Wii/ first, then the other link. your just gonna have to trust me, it does work, just like the 2nd generation ipod touch jailbreak. i finished that a couple of days ago, even though my friend said it was impossible.

you are right that the dvd-r will not run through the disc channel without a modchip, but we dont run them through the disc channel but through the backup channel. or you can lookup something called the virtual modchip, you run it through the homebrew channel then your backups STILL show up w/o modchip. i have both that i use different times for compatability with different regions because virtual modchip does not support everything yet.

I just did this today i downloaded some songs from the frets on fire forums then i backed up my guitar hero 3 disc over wifi. I put all the songs on the bonus tier to not disturb the career mode :)

does this only work with GH 3 or does it work with world tour as well?

this will work for the nintendo wii system, with guitar hero 3 legends of rock, and guitar hero aerosmith. world tour is mor complicated, as it has drums and vocals. i will make an update when world tour customs come out, and i think it is simple enough for me to figure it out. the ghost was originally a seven part command line sequence, and it wasnt really worth it to do because of how long it took. you had to do each song individually. when it happens though, i will go out and buy the world tour kit so i have a legal copy and all the instruments, then i will work it out. good luck with your customs : )
