Step 10: My avatar is only a silhouette!

Usually your avatar will be a blank silhouette and it will tell you, you need to install an update to use them.  All you need to do is download this update file, and place it on a USB flash drive, and plug it into the back usb port of your xbox.  Your 360 should detect it and install it.  Make sure you extract it first and the root of the drive is the $SystemUpdate folder.  You can also burn it to a CD to update.

If you're paranoid you will brick your console because microsoft is out to get you and ruin your homebrew, you can look at the picture about removing the r6t3 resistor to keep from having your fuses blown.

I also provided a mediafire mirror in case the microsoft one goes down.

You can find more info about removing the R6T3 resistor here: http://www.free60.org/R6T3

Important Note

- The removal of R6T3 will cause an E80 system error if the NXE update is installed.
- Replacing the resistor with the original or with another 10K Ohm resistor usually fixes the error state.
- Given the difficulty in surface mounting a resistor as small as R6T3, simply holding a 10K Ohm in place while the 360 is powering up after giving a E80 will typically allow normal operation from then on.
- Care must be taken not to bridge the gap without a resistor in place as this may cause system damage.
when you temporarily put the resister back in does it blow the fuse

You need some kind of memory unit to store the profile on, or else the xbox has nowhere to put it! So just put in your normal xbox hard drive to create the profile, you can always transfer it later.

easy to follow with good diagrams. I'm now the proud owner of 2 JTAG beast's :)

One question though.. is it safe to update my dash to the file you've linked? Won't that destroy the JTAG or is it only updating past 8955

The file I included is a dash update that is actually a lower version then what you are running and it won't touch your kernel, it just takes the avatar files from it.  If you wanna be extra sure you can remove the fuse I talked about in the gyide.

I can't get past or skip the initial setup. It asks for language, video, etc, and then when i get to create profile it won't let me skip it, and asks for a memory unit. I have a 3.5 hard drive attached and also tried a memory card in all three usb ports. It still wont continue.

Any help would be great  :)
