Introduction: How to Jailbreak 3.0 Firmware on IPhone/iPod Touch on Windows/Mac
How to easily jailbreak the new firmware on the iphone/ipod touch
Step 1: Getting Started
First off, do this at your own risk (I have jailbroken my ipod at least 10 times and it is pretty safe) and i am not responsible for any bricked or broken iphones or ipod touches.
This works on:
Mac (Intel models only!!)
And this only works on
iPod Touch 2G
NO iPhone 3GS IN THIS INSTRUCTABLE , but there are tutorials on youtube and places like that.
you can see the video tutorial of mine about this whole thing either here or here
Let's get Started!!
you have to have 3.0 software already on your iphone/ipod touch
and you have to have itunes 8.2
this can get you a free firmware for all those ipod touch users as well!!!
You're going to first have to download redsn0w
Mac - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ABS3VL1R
Windows - http://megaupload.com/?d=F40WGM44
Then you have to get these firmwares, if you have already got them from the leaked 3.0 like i do, thats fine,
it'll look something like this from the leaked version, mines and ipod 2G (iPod2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore)
Here are the firmwares that you need to download (preferably to desktop or some place easy to access)
If you have the iphone 1st generation, you need to download both of the boot loaders here as well - http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2YETX8RN
And for all the firmwares, just go to this link and look for your appropriate firmware for your device.
The next step deals with going through redsn0w's simple interface.
Step 2: Jailbreaking
Once you have installed the redsn0w program and your specified firmware, you need to open up redsn0w and go through the instructions:
Browse your hard drive for the ipsw file (firmware that you just installed) and wait for the processing.
Then you're going to check "Install Cydia" on the next screen and check "Unlock" as well if you have the iPhone 1G
iPhone 1G users:
Then if you have the iPhone 1G you'll be brought to a screen where you have to load the 2 boot loaders I provided links for before, continue on to the next step below this.
Then you'll be brought to a screen that says to turn off the device and keep it plugged in,
what you have to do is make sure your device is connected, iTunes is closed, and put your device in DFU mode, instructions below.
DFU mode instructions:
Hold the home AND power button for 10 seconds
Then release the power button and hold just the home button for another 10 seconds
This will take you to a black screen then it will flash white after you start on the next step...
The next YOU MUST BE PREPARED TO HOLD THE HOME AND POWER BUTTON AS SOON AS YOU CLICK NEXT,
but if you already put it in DFU mode, it will take you to the loading of the jailbreak, if you didn't put it in DFU mode follow these steps:
as soon as you click next you will have to hold just the home button in for 3 seconds,
then the home AND power button for 10 seconds,
then just the home button for 30 seconds
DONT WORRY IF YOU MESS UP ON THAT, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS HIT THE BACK BUTTON
follow the next step for important instructions
Step 3: End and Important Tips and Pointers
after you complete that step, redsnow should say "waiting for reboot" and "uploading first stage"
and stuff like that, LEAVE YOUR IPHONE/IPOD ALONE!!! YOU HAVE PASSED THE POINT OF NOW RETURN!!! DO NOT UNPLUG YOUR DEVICE UNTIL YOU ARE PROMPTED!!!
Your device should have a picture that looks like the picture below after the white screen, then after that, a white loading circle should pop up below that picture and redsn0w should say done, you can close it out any time when it says that. Then after that, you should see a picture of a running pineapple and a loading bar with different processes happening, DO NOT TOUCH YOUR DEVICE YET!!! Then after that, your device should be rebooting and when it loads back up, your apps should still be there with cydia as one of them. If you see this, then congrats!! you jailbroke your device successfully!!! give yourself a pat on the back!!
Some cautions of cydia:
(little note on cydia, it can and does time-out and lag as you get more stuff, so be patient with it and don't press random buttons when this happens!
there are some paid apps on cydia and they will be in blue, so watch out for those because most everything is free
another thing, do not install every single source, there is a way to do this and I did it, and my cydia stopped working, so i had to restore and re-jailbreak my ipod, so don't install all sources!!!
and there are certain cydia app or packages that let you mess with your ipod's infrastructure like mobile terminal, make sure you know what you're doing when you mess with that app!!!!!
those are some safety tips for cydia so enjoy cydia but be safe!
