How to Live an Aesthetic Life by Wearing, Eating, Traveling By, and Listening to Specific Colors for a Week

For seven consecutive days, we chose a single color and attempted to dress in that color, eat only foods of that color, listen to music related to that color, and generally make as many choices as possible1 to conform to that color.

Monday - Red
Tuesday - Orange
Wednesday - Yellow
Thursday - Green
Friday - Purple
Saturday - Brown
Sunday - Black and White

While an artist might undertake such a regime for "high art" and a celebrity might do so for neurotic needs-attention-itis, we did this because it sounded like fun, presented an interesting culinary and sartorial challenge, and it made a good story and an even better Instructable.

Here's how we did it, including recipes and tips for successfully navigating a monochromatic dressing- and eating-disorder.

1 Thinking in the color didn't go so well, but we did try.

For Red Breakfast, we made a raspberry pomegranate smoothie. Cranberries would have been nice, but we were out.

Approximate ingredients:
pomegranate rooibos tea
banana
frozen raspberries
psyllium husks (for body)
rice protein powder
chocolate
pomegranate syrup
stevia
cashew macadamia nut butter
egg whites
sea salt
allspice
cardamom

Steep the tea and dissolve the chocolate in hot water for 5 minutes. Let the chocolate tea mixture cool. Mix all ingredients together and blend until smooth.

Turn on your red playlist, and drink while wearing red and holding your red sweatshirt. Get angry. Look for a red car to borrow.

Ed Alleyne-Johnson's music would have been perfect for this project. He has an album called Purple Electric Violin Concerto, and his album Ultraviolet is all colour: White (Intro) Red Orange Yellow Green Blue Indigo Violet Ultraviolet White (Outro)

Curse my inquisitive nature. My curiosity couldn't handle it, so I checked the page source. The smaller box's caption in the second picture on step 28 reads "Urine." Regardless, this is a really funny idea and well presented. I am now resolved to pester a couple of friends until they agree to do this.
Oh thank you. I was just about to do that but I had forgotten how.
How do you do that?
Right-click > View Page Source It's on line 427, around column 640.
Oh. Thanks!
LOL! I looked too. it's actually line 446, column 644. Hahaha. I wonder who's it is...

They had no blue day. Probably because there is no such thing as blue food.
BLUEBERRIES!!  I could eat those for an entire day :)
Blueberries are PURPLE, just named "blue"berries. IDK why. It's Just like that, so people just get over it. Blueberries====Purple, NOT Blue. A Fact of Life.

The addition of Yuengling Lager or Rolling Rock beer would also be appropriate, green bottles.

I would submit that if you all tried to fit on Mitch's yellow bike, yellow day would have turned red.
Hehe, the first thing I thought when I saw 3 people and one bike: WTF(Would They Fit)?

Are you suggesting everything in this Instructable isn't true!?
helava ewilhelm6 years ago
Look at the smile in that picture! Does that LOOK like the smile of someone who is telling the truth? No, I say! No!

lol
I'm guessing they use a camera with a 'burst' mode' as this effect is most probably made by taking one photo seconds after the other with both the subject matter and the photographer moving slightly.
??
you needed saffron rice- goes with the indian lunch. You could have a fruity (banana or pineapple) italian ice after that!
You could also have actually 'made' the rice yellow by mushing it into the sauce...
Thank you soo much. This instructable totally made my multicoloured day.

My kids and I have theme weeks all through the summer. We had a no electricity week where we cooked outside and used candles (the fridge stayed plugged in). Another week we tried to eat for a dollar a day for a week. We found that if we tried to live on that amount alone we couldn’t but if we combined our money we all ate pretty well. Now we are going to try this! It is right up our alley and something I’ve never thought of. THANKS SO MUCH FOR SHARING!

Those are great ideas! How about posting an Instructable documenting all of your summer theme weeks with your kids?

This happened to me today. I went to the ladies room and when I looked and saw while flushing, I was ready to pass out but thought I should grab a mirror 1st and check the whites of my eyes. Then, I remember I ate a number of fresh organic beets yesterday that I had cooked. Then I question it changing my urine so I thought I would check the internet. Thank you so much for this information. It looks just like the picture or I should say looked just like before I flushed. Again, many thanks.
no offense, but this is really weird

And THIS, ladies and gentlemen, is how Liberal Arts Majors contribute uniquely to society! *laughs*

I only poke fun because my personality is so far removed that I'd have never thought of this. But in all seriousness, it looks like you had a great time doing it. Nice work! I'm sure you also brought joy and fun to your neighbors, co-workers and citizens. ;)
