Introduction: How to Make a Bracket to Mount a Brembo Caliper

This Instructable will show you have to make a one-off bracket for your motorcycle.

Step 1: Step 1: Take Some Cardboard to Rough Out Your Idea

Make a rough shape of the bracket and cut it out of cardboard. I use several pieces and staple each in position.
Then take a piece of foam and make a 3D sample...it will cut easily with X-Acto knives. You can drill and tap foam prototype to actually hang everything as it will be.

Step 2: Step 2: Then Cut a Sample From Aluminum

Using a bandsaw at TechShop, use the foam shape to carefully cut out the same shape from a piece of aluminum.

Step 3: Step 3: Cut the Backside for Clearance

You may need to adjust the spacing on the back of the bracket to fit your motorcycle. Adjust the spacing with washers, and then transfer final dimensions to an aluminum spacer(s)

Step 4: Step 4: Mount the Prototype

Mount the prototype to the motorcycle to work out the spacing. Check to see that everything clears.

Step 5: Step 5: Mount Your New Bracket to the Brembo Caliper

Nice looking, no? But hey, it's not just looks -- the new bracket means the Brembo can now use 25% less pedal force to lock the rear wheel and it still has a nice firm pedal feel. Place the new bracket on your motorcycle and enjoy the ride! I made it at TechShop, TechShop has all I need to make a one-off bracket that's not only lighter but with the Brembo, it can stop better--and it looks great, too!
