Introduction: How to Make Baka Bana
In this instructable I will show you how to make Baka Bana. Baka Bana is a side dish that is eaten in South America like Surinam. It is originally a Javanese recipe and you can eat it with peanut/satay sauce.
The main ingredient of Baka Bana is ripe plantain. I like to use over ripe plantain because the riper the plantain the sweeter the Baka Bana.
Step 1: Overview
The make Baka Bana you need 5 ingredients. You start by combining all purpose flour, baking powder a pinch of salt and hot water. Whisk until you have a nice batter that looks like pan cake batter.
Now peel the plantain and cut in thin slices. Dip each slice of plantain in the batter and use a skewer to take the slices out of the batter. Heat a skillet on medium heat and cover the bottom with vegetable oil. When hot pan fry the Baka Bana until golden brown. Turn and back the other side golden brown as well.
Do not crowd the pan but leave enough space so the Baka Bana can fry. Take out of the pan and drain on kitchen paper.
Serve with peanut/satay or petjil sauce.

Step 3: What Do You Need to Make This Recipe
1 ripe plantain
½ cup of all purpose flour
½ tsp of baking soda
Pinch of salt
½ cup of warm water
Step 4: Instructions
Put the all purpose flour in a bowl and add the baking soda and salt
Stir through and add the water. Whisk into a batter similar to pancake batter
Cut the plantain in small slices
Dip each slice of plantain in the batter
Heat a baking pan and cover the bottom with oil
Pan fry about three pieces of baka bana at a time
Drain on kitchen paper
