Step 1Preparing the Bottle Caps

Preparing the Bottle Caps
Place a bottle cap right side facing up on the magazine. Use the hammer and nail to make a hole in the middle.

Take the hammer and bottle caps outside. Starting with the wrong side facing up, flatten the bottle cap. Flip it over, and flatten some more.

I use bottlecaps for numerous projects. When I pound them, I pound the edges inward, thereby doing away with the rough edges... If something is going to be in close contact with the skin, I will further adhere a circle of coordinating felt on the back side.

not bad :) i think if you give it a couple of coats of thicker paint, you'll loose the sharp edges as they get smoothed off. if you need to get hold of bottle caps, try asking a friendly pub to save them for you.

Neat. I have been wondering what I could do with all those bottle caps. I have done jewelry work before. I will probably come up with more ideas now that you have got me started. Thank you for sharing.

Wire should be cut with wire cutters - safer and neater.

I'm just a little worried about sharp edges. Are you able to flatten them all out?

Nifty idea! I wonder if they could be used to make buttons, basically doing the same thing, except only 2 holes in the center for threading. Big buttons can be pricey....I think I will try that for the winter coat I'm planning to make. Thanks for the idea!
