How to Make Earrings Out of Bottlecaps

One man's trash truly is another man's treasure! Here is one way to take old bottle caps and turn them into accessories. We totally rocked them pirate style! Materials:
4 Bottlecaps
Old Magazine
Hammer
Nail
White paint, other colors as well
20 gauge silver wire
Earring pieces

Step 1 Preparing the Bottle Caps

Place a bottle cap right side facing up on the magazine. Use the hammer and nail to make a hole in the middle.

Take the hammer and bottle caps outside. Starting with the wrong side facing up, flatten the bottle cap. Flip it over, and flatten some more.

I use bottlecaps for numerous projects. When I pound them, I pound the edges inward, thereby doing away with the rough edges... If something is going to be in close contact with the skin, I will further adhere a circle of coordinating felt on the back side.

not bad :) i think if you give it a couple of coats of thicker paint, you'll loose the sharp edges as they get smoothed off. if you need to get hold of bottle caps, try asking a friendly pub to save them for you.

yeah, i was wondering wat to do to stop my neck being cut to pieces... :P also, you can buy bags of bottle caps at shops like woolworths, safeways, big w .... probably walmart... (i dnt know cos i live in australia)

Wire should be cut with wire cutters - safer and neater.

Nifty idea! I wonder if they could be used to make buttons, basically doing the same thing, except only 2 holes in the center for threading. Big buttons can be pricey....I think I will try that for the winter coat I'm planning to make. Thanks for the idea!
