I decided for this video I would experiment with a Guar Gum based Giant Bubble recipe after many requests over the last year. It seems to work very well! On par at least with the J-Lube based recipe that I used in this earlier instructable: https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Make-HUGE-B...

Here are the ingredients for this mixture:

 • 1 Tbps Guar Gum Powder
 • 24oz Dish Soap
 • 3 Gallons of Distilled Water
 • 3 Tbps Baking Powder

The best dish soap for bubbles is up for debate, but generally Dawn Platinum Power Clean is seen as one of the best. I also like Dawn's hypoalergenic dish soap which seems to work nearly as well and can be easier to find in stores. Anything labeled as a concentrate of '2x' is typically not very good.

Giant bubbles will work best in high humidity and cool air, so mornings and late afternoons will give the best results. The middle of the night can also give great results, and the colors created in the bubbles by artificial lights are quite nice.

I've been doing this for a couple of years now, following NightHawk's instructions on YouTube. Everytime that I set up, a large crowd gathers to play and I love it. I do this for my grandkids (and truth be told, for myself, too), but there is always plenty for anyone that wants to jump in. I'm not speaking from personal experience, but do NOT do this in a parking lot with cars nearby or any other place that the bubbles can damage something. That being said, you folks need to check out NightHawk's YouTube channel. His videos are amazing. In my humble opinion, he is one of the two best YouTubers out there.

I tried the bubble mixture this morning and it was incredible!
My conclusion is, it needs to be made ahead of time. I have made the J-Lube, baking powder, Dawn soap and water mixture 25 times before with only a moments notice, but I am going to make it ahead of time from now on so I won't be disappointed.
I made the giant bubble wand with bamboo poles, but I need to tweet the sting or the connection to get it right. It works, but the bubbles seem to pop too easy.
Thank you so much for your advice and your video.

I had a lot of success with the J-Lube, but then last night, and a couple of other times, the bubbles would not stay formed.

Is it best to let the mixture sit for awhile? I did pre-mix the baking powder and the j-Lube in baggies, so I quickly mix the ingredients. Do you think that might have been the problem? Also I used blue Dawn and regular water, not distilled, but I always use this mix and it usually works.

Was it warmer out or lower humidity? It's hard to make bubbles in low humidity.
It was very humid. I did some testing today, and it seemed that the mixture got better with time. They did not do near as well as before, but I will try again tomorrow.

It could be that the J-Lube didn't mix very well and it's taking some time to fully dissolve. You really have to mix it well with the soap before adding water. The times I've tried mixing both the J-Lube and baking powder into the soap at the same time did make it more difficult to thoroughly combine because the baking powder made it so foamy. I always add that as the last ingredient now after the water has been added. Some of the bubbling websites recommend wetting the j-lube with a little rubbing alcohol before adding it since that seems to make it mix much easier without lumps but I've never tried it.

What is guar gum and where can I find it?
Guar gum is often used in gluten free baking. Look in the gluten free section if your grocery store. Some stores that have bulk section can carry it also. Amazon would be a good source. I have bought bob's red mill brand in the past.
good stuff. thanks..

where do you find the Guar Gum Powder?

It's pretty easy to find on ebay. Otherwise it might be carried by some grocery and health food stores.

that is awesome! my niece would love this!
I like your stirring stick

Can you believe I just found it lying on the ground? Who would throw that out?!

I am a big bubble fan. I have used my version of the Jlube mixture on many occasions. I will try this version as well. Thanks for the video!
