Do i have to bake peanut butter bars?

I've made these several times now, they come out great! I like trying different kinds of graham crackers and different degrees of smashing the heck out of them, the bars turn out good when there's a little crunch, too.

umm we dont have graham crackers in england ,what can be used instead of them??
leilaninoel in reply to minhazwarisFeb 10, 2010. 8:31 AM
try plain digestive biscuits, maybe?

PS - make sure you use icing sugar - I thought confectioner's sugar was caster sugar and it turned out a bit gritty.

I used arnotts milk coffee biscuits (well the home brand equivalent) - do you have those in England?

Does the type of peanut butter matter?
holdenleslie (author) in reply to Spiderdog3000Feb 10, 2010. 6:31 AM
Nope. I used Skippy creamy peanut butter, but any kind of creamy peanut butter works.

Okay. Because I was wondering if it would affect the taste if you were to use organic, no sugar added, etc. peanut butter.
IBreakHeavyStuff in reply to Spiderdog3000Sep 2, 2010. 8:08 PM
I used organic peanut butter. It was tasty! But not quite salty enough. It really needs the extra salt to cut the sweetness of the chocolate.

Just tried my first batch. They worked out great! I used milk-coffee biscuits because we don't have graham crackers.

=) Done! In the fridge hardening now. Can't wait. I told my flatemate they take all night to harden so I don't have to share =).

I make this recipe every week. This + glass of milk = best night-time snack ever. I personally like using butterscotch / regular chocolate chips mix (you can buy them that way). I've also found that the amount of butter you use in the first step has a lot to do with the cooling time and degree of final consistency. Use close to or a little less than 1/2 cup of butter it'll work fine, and when you use a little more than that it will be a little more runny. But once it has over night you won't know the difference :)

You list "butter" here twice in different amounts, did you combine them or use one or the other?

You didn't read the whole thing, did you?

oh, and i discovered you don't really need a pan. a piece of foil with a bit of pam works on a flat surface...i put it in the fridge and used a big long knife to cut into square...beautilious.

Great instructable!! i just made some.  I didn't have enough powdered sugar, just about 1/3 cup and only two tablespoons of butter.  i was sure it was going to come out tasting bland, but to my surprise, it was pretty sweet and yummy! So, if you're trying to cut back on sugar and fat, it won't compromise the taste.  Thank you!!
