I like plastic bags from stores and butiques with cute prints on it. But I end up with piles of useless plastic bag. So, I make them into plarn (plastic yarn). You can make all sorts of crafty stuff out of these. For crochet or knitting material or braid them into other stuff like bracelet or whatever your crafty mind can come up with. Have fuuuunnn ^__^

Step 1: Things You Need

You will need a plastic bag and a scissors..
You can use any size or kinds of plastic bag, with or without print.
Make sure the plastic bag you will use is clean.

Step 2: Cut the Handle and the End

Cut the end of the plastic bag and the top where the handles are.
So you will have a turbular plastic.

Step 3: Cut to Pieces

Fold the plastic bag several times and then start cutting it using a scissors.
You can cut it 1 - 5cm wide, depends on how thick you want your plastic yarn will be.

Step 4: Start Connecting

Start connecting piece by piece..
1. Put your plastic piece overlapping one and another
2. Fold one piece and slide it under
3. Pull both piece gently untill both piece are connected

Step 5: Make a Strand

Continue connecting pieces of plastic untill you have a long strand.
If you run out of yarn you can repeat step 1 with a new plastic bag.
Combining different plastic bag is a good idea to make patterns.

Step 6: Ready for Use

Your instructions were really clear! We've been going to town making rolls of plarn for our church's mission in Haiti. Thanks for your Instructable. It's much appreciated!

um, do i need special patterns to knit and crochet with plarn, or are normal patterns ok? and i made plarn as one continuing strip(from a youtube vid) vs how u make it from loops, which way is correct?

I use regular patterns for crocheting with plarn.
I've never use it as a continuing strip before, but thats a good idea. I'll surely try that. I've seen someone knit a sling bag made out of plarn combined with strips of denim fabric and it looks soooo awesome. The combination of blue denim and colorful plarn its just so pretty!
