Handmade Heart Warming Ideas for Valentine's Day

You will Need:

scraps of red and cream fabric
black embroidery thread
fiberfill for stuffing
basic sewing needs

You will fall in LOVE with these vintage heart pillows! They are an easy to sew Valentine project and cross stitching has been added with embroidery thread.

Step 1:

Let's make a heart pattern. Take an 8.5"X11" piece of computer paper and fold the long ends together. Draw a half of a heart as shown.

Step 2:

Cut out your heart pattern. Open pattern and draw two lines to divide heart as shown.

Step 3:

Cut the lines. You now have 3 heart pattern pieces. Mark each piece like I did.

Step 4:

From each pattern piece pin and cut two pieces of fabric from different prints.

Step 5:

Now let's sew the pieces of the heart together.

Place one of the top and middle section of heart pieces  PRETTY SIDES TOGETHER at the center seam. Pin. Stitch using the pressure foot as your guide.

Step 6:

Do the same to the bottom and middle section.

Step 7:

Press seams nice and flat. Now you have a full heart with three different prints of fabric.

With three ply black embroidery thread hand stitch "X"s over the bottom and middle seam and the top and middle heart seam is.

Step 8:

Pin heart on fabric. Cut out one heart to use as a heart back.

Step 9:

Place hearts pretty sides together and pin around outer edge. Leave a 3" opening on one side of heart indicated where the pin is in the photo. Stitch around heart using the pressure foot as your guide.

Step 10:

Turn heart pretty side out. Gently poke out heart point.

Stuff the heart and hand sew the opening closed.

Step 11:

Display your vintage hearts next to your favorite romantic photograph. This is a photo of my grand-parents, both of whom have passed on. They were the sweetest couple you can imagine.

Happy Sewing!
