of you have any other instructable ideas you would like to see i will do my best!

Step 1:

first joint your fire wood so it has 2 flat sides that are at a 90 degree angle.

Step 2:

make sure your band saw has a nice long fence and set your saw to your desired measurement plus some extra. this will give you something to plane off for a smooth surface. a deep/wide blade is recommended.
take your time and keep your wood square and flush to your bed and fence.

Step 3:

then cut off the unwanted bark portion.
you can also do this on a table saw if available.

Step 4:

now run it through your planer on each side and you'll have a beautiful piece of usable wood for your projects!
I use this method quite a bit. I only use a thickness planer and table saw though. it's pretty handy though when trying to save $$ on wood for projects. used it on several different types of wood and made this awesome cutting board out of them.

That looks awesome! You should make an Instructable on it!

looks good! what kinda of wood? or did you stain it?

Nothing more satisfying than milling your own project lumber, especially if it's White Oak, quartersawn.

way to make some nice usable wood most people would normally burn
