How to Make a Bracelet Out of Christmas Hooks

Bored outta your mind? Wanna mess around with those ornament hooks leftover after you decked out the tree? Look no further!
This instructable will show you how to make a curled heart bracelet out of ornament hooks. Lovely.

Step 1: Supplies

You will need:

A pair of needle - nosed pliers
13 Christmas ornament hooks for hearts, and a few more for jump rings
Time
A thimble, maybe

Step 2: Stripping the Wire

Start by straightening the wire hook and stripping off the plastic cover, if there is one. If not, then skip this step.
I found it helpful to unbend one end and strip that, then unbend one end, then re bend the other to strip the other side. If that didn't make any sense, then look at the pictures. That should help. By the way, all through this instructable, it you want to use a thimble on your first finger, of course, go right on ahead and do so. Though, when I first did this, I didn't use the thimble, and I actually blackened by finger a little bit, cause of the tarnishing under the plastic cover, and I stabbed my finger a few times. If you ever stab your finger, folks, wash your hands and get a Blue's Clues band - Aid on there, stat. I mean it.

Step 3: Bend the Wire

Start by bending the wire in half. I suggest you bend the edges together, hold them there, and pinch the bent end together with the pliers, so that you get an even bend. At least, that's what I did. Once you've done that, pull the edges apart to make a right - angle.

Step 4: Start Curling

Now, slowly curl the end of the wire until it's the length that you want. Then, flip it around and do the same to the other side. Like this.

Step 5: More Bending

Now, the last step for the hearts. Push both sides towards each other, so that it's more, I dunno, heart - ish.
There. Now you have a beautiful curled wire heart. Awesome. Now, from here, you could make it into a necklace, a pair of earrings, you know. It's very versatile. But... If you want to continue with the bracelet (which is what I did for my grandmother for Christmas) repeat steps 2 - 5 until you have 13 lovely hearts lined up. Now, this makes a big bracelet, as bracelets go, so beware. Just telling you.

Step 6: Jump Rings, and Why I Can't Find Them

Now, as the title states, I have problems with jump rings. possibly one of the most important things in the jewelry world, right up next to cord and wire. At least in my perspective. Whenever I go to my local craft store, their either nonexistent, or five bucks for 6 little silver ones, or something. Unbelievable. So, for this project, I decided to make my own by curling a piece of wire in on itself until I had the ideal size, then, bending it off, and securing my hearts at the curve with it. Easy peasy. Anyway, I suggest that you just start cranking them out until you have enough for your 13 hearts. But don't connect it just yet.
PS: Whenever I say that I 'bent off' a piece of wire, it just means that I bent the wire back and forth until it broke off. Easy.

Step 7: Genius!... Well, Not Really

Now, if you don't have a handy - dandy stash of jewelry clasps in your back pocket, then I suggest that you pay attention. If you do, well then, go right ahead and attach one, and by all means skip this step.
But if you don't, take another piece of stripped wire (or not stripped, up to you) and curl the end until you have a little circle at the end, like in the picture. Then, bend it gently, so that it's still round, and use your pliers to bend out the end a little, again, it's up to you how sharp the end is. Bring it all in a little, attach it to one end, and Bam! (Emeril Moment) your done with the clasp. Awesome. By the way, on this one, I bent a little bit of wire off the end.

Step 8: Now You See the Light

Now, remember when I told you earlier, about this making a big bracelet? I wasn't lying. Go on, wind that beast around your wrist. See that? That bracelet's big enough to fit around a small muffler. So, if your loved one doesn't have wrists the size of small soup cans, I suggest that you take a few of the hearts off and maybe use them for something else. Maybe for those earrings we were talking about, eh, eh? Anyway, when the bracelet is the size you want it tho be, just fasten the clasp and Bam! (Another Emeril Moment, oh my) you have a beautiful bracelet that you could give to a family member, or, you have a new bracelet to squeal about on Christmas morning.
