Step 1: Purchasing parts

For each costume you are planning to make you will need to purchase the following parts and have them on hand for your project.

1 white bodysuit/onesie with long sleeves in your child's size
1 white t-shirt 2 sizes larger than the onesie
1 white cotton pilots hat (can be found at www.hannaandersson.com)
1 pair yellow tights (can be found at www.welovecolors.com)
(5) 65 g white 6 foot long feather boas (ebay is the cheapest) 5 is best for a 2-3 yr old, if you are making one for a baby or younger child you will use less.
1 pair yellow heavy duty dishwashing gloves (XL works great for a size 9 toddler shoe, buy smaller sized gloves for smaller shoes)
1 pair of your child's shoes
1/4 yd red felt
1 bag fiberfill
needles
thread
scissors
hot glue gun and glue sticks

This instructable inspired me to make my own chicken costume and I'm well over...uh never mind the age.  Nevertheless, it was a hit at the office.  I gave your instructable all the credit.

This is a prize winning project, going to try it for my 14 yr old, lol. I would suggest that you write up an article for readers digest or another publication or send the idea to Martha Stewart, bet she would have you on for a craft segment! This epitomizes simple tools, amazing creativity and spectacular unique results. *applauds and shouts 'Bravo, Bravo!'*

The first time we went out they had beaks painted on their noses, but... they sort of rubbed off. So they didn't have them the second time they went out. BTW... great chicken picture. I love the ones with the top hats.

Wow, those are awesome! I wonder how many boas it would take for an adult costume...
bethaldridge (author) says: Oct 10, 2008. 4:52 AM
A LOT! I used 6 per costume for each in size 2T. So... depending on the size of the adult, somewhere around 15-20 maybe?

These are the cutest chicken costumes I've seen. I can't wait to make this for my son!

I'm glad you like them :) It's better to make them with white uncolored feathers. Because my my little black and white chicken kept getting black ink all over her face from the dye.

Adorable! If I had kids I would make these!

Chickens are so cute!!! until you've seen the dirty jobs episode... Throw a duck bill on those suckers and they'll be perfect!!!! (the duck is the favorite animal of this particular instructable-ite.)
