How to Make a Chicken Costume

Step 2Making the body

Making the body
For the sake of time I'm explaining how to make a 2T-3T chicken costume. Smaller children will require fewer and smaller materials.

1. Begin by inserting the long sleeve onesie into the tshirt and smoothing it out, pull the arms through the sleeves of the tshirt. Stitch around the hem of the shirt carefully either by hand or on a sewing machine so that the shirt is secured to the onesie.

2. Fill the space in between the shirt and onesie with fiberfill until plump but not too much, a 2 inch layer should be fine. Remember that there will be a thick layer of feathers on top of this.

3. Stitch around the neck to keep the fiberfill in.

4. Starting at the back of the neck begin tacking your first feather boa to the tshirt with small stitches or dots of hot glue making sure to glue or tack the center string and not just the feathers. Stitches work much better than hot glue in my experience.

5. Wrap the boas loosely around the body tacking or hot gluing every couple of inches, working around the arms until the whole body is covered down to the hem of the tshirt where you stitched it before. You should have used up only 4 boas at this point.

6. Cut your 5th boa into two equal pieces. Then cut one of those pieces in half again into two 1 1/2 foot pieces.

7. Fold the smaller pieces in half and tack them to tops of the arms starting at the shoulders and tacking at the shoulders, elbow and wrist.

8. The body is done!
