This is how to make a cursor with photoshop.
I will be making my cell phone as a cursor.

Step 1: Open Explorer

First download the attached plugin and put it in the directory C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Plug-Ins\File Formats.

Step 2: Open Photoshop

Open Photoshop and create a new file, 32x32 and give it a solid color background---(it wont show up later)

Step 3: Make Cursor

Make what you want your cursor to look like.
Then use the magic wand tool and select the background color.

Step 4: Now Add It to an Alpha Channel

Now we are going to add it to an alpha channel by pressing Select--->Save Selection...
Then we name it like BG or something.
Then Deselect (Ctrl+D)

Step 5: Now Save

Go File--->Save as...---> Type name and use scrollbox to select *.cur

Step 6: Apply Cursor

Go to control panel ---> Mouse ---> Pointer ---> Browse
Then find your cursor and press ok

Step 7: DONE!!!

Now we are done.
<p>Where can I find the plug-in?</p>
This doesn't seem to apply to Windows 8... any suggestions??? I am DYING to make this.
I found it much easier to just use the Alpha 1 channel from the Channel drop down, instead of creating a new channel. For some reason it wouldn't work correctly with the above instructions.
How do i do that? I'm new to photoshop<br />
<strong>1</strong>. Make the Background behind your cursor black. <strong>2.</strong> Make sure the picture and the background color are on the same layer (<em>Merge/Flatten Image if need be</em>). <strong>3</strong>. Using the wand tool select your background color (<em>also make sure the &quot;Contiguous&quot; box is checked for the wand tool's settings, and nothing else; this should be at the top of the window including &quot;anti-alias&quot; &amp; &quot;sample all layers&quot;)&nbsp;</em><strong>4.</strong> Save your selection as a new channel, name it whatever you want (<em>Select&gt;Save Selection</em>).&nbsp;<strong>5.&nbsp;</strong>Deselect.&nbsp;<strong>6.</strong>Zoom in on your picture at 800% and select 1 pixel somewhere in the top left corner (<em>This is for the hotspot</em>). <strong>7.&nbsp;</strong>Save the selected pixel as a new alpha channel (<em>same as last time).&nbsp;</em><strong>8.&nbsp;</strong>Save as a .CUR file and you're done! :D
Thanks man will try out soon :)
It dont works for CS5!!

Doesn't work. I am in CS3 and the bg is solid...I tried white, black, green, and none, and it doesn't show right when applied.

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0 and when I open the file it asks me if I want to allow the file to open in the Editor. If I click allow, it will only open the program. My dilema is, I'm not able to open the file and move it to my programs. <br> <br>If anyone has any tips on how I can fix this, please respond or PM me ASAP! <br> <br>Thanks.
Nevermind, I figured it out!
mine has worked fine great instructable<br>thanks!!
why would you want a cellphone as your cursor??
because you can!
Thank you for this instructables! Used it today. You would think that for an expensive piece of software, Photoshop would already export icons without any help but I guess not.
<em><strong>yah it does. I'm still using that&nbsp; cursor<br /> </strong></em>
Does anyone have a plugin that saves an a .ANI?<br />
How could I possibly find a CS4 plug-in for the cursor?
this plugin works with cs4 alswell as with cs2
The later versions are largely backwards-compatible, so the above plug-in should work with CS4.
It doesn't >.<
Yes, it does... I have CS4 AND&nbsp; created a cursor using it...<br />
&nbsp;Oooo, neato a new version. YAY
With me it only works with a 100 % invisible background if the background color chosen is black. If you choose any other color the backrground is trnsparent but visible. For the rest this instructable&nbsp;works fine over here. Cheers.
Mine is also fine, but it comes out with a purple background and changes color in a wierd way<br /> <br />
so does anyone know how to use reg images as your icons without photo shop
I'm sorry, you really can't without paying money.
there are numerous freeware icon editors... <br /> <br /> <br />
&nbsp;Errgh, 'Freeware' It makes me cringe

the picture apears fine but when i aply it to a cursor it comes up in black &amp; white static like thing in the shape of the object but it just looks like a fedex tracker, whats the problem?<br />
&nbsp;Same, the cur doesn't appear
Would this work in Photoshop Elements 6.0?<br /> <br /> because that's what I have... I was able to download the file format attchment into the correct file so hopefully it will work...
Um I tried saving mine but I&nbsp;do not see the crusor format. I downloaded the file and everything yet it doesn't work? What am I doing wrong or what am I not doing?
are you sure that you downloaded it into the right file?
Thanks I did it and it worked, but the colors are messed&nbsp; up.&nbsp; I used a photo that i had and the colors of the cursor change depending on what i am hovering over, they are always the opposite of whatever is behind it.&nbsp; Is there a way to fix it
I got the cursor to work, but the solid background color I picked changed to a magenta, and still shows.
it wont work help me out!!!
it's so nice, i've done it... thanks a lot.
Very nice, but where would I download this plugin? Cheers Haze
I made one but there is a slightly transparent box around it where the solid color was. I was wondering if it might be because i used CS3 or if anybody has any suggestions on what i might have done wrong.
I used CS3. Perfect for me. What I assume went wrong was you didn't fill the background correctly. Quick tip. Alt + Del fills the selected area. Try that.
could you somehow add a .GIF so it is animated? or it doesn't work that way?
i alredy sed that i made a structable o nhow 2 do tht
<a rel="nofollow" href="https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-animated-cursors!-XD/">here it is</a><br/>

wair can i get a copy of photoshop
you can get a copy of the new photoshop 3 beta off of download.com its a trial tho u could use a keygen but that would be unethical
