How to Make a Cursor with Photoshop

This is how to make a cursor with photoshop.
I will be making my cell phone as a cursor.

Step 1 Open Explorer

First download the attached plugin and put it in the directory C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Plug-Ins\File Formats.

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0 and when I open the file it asks me if I want to allow the file to open in the Editor. If I click allow, it will only open the program. My dilema is, I'm not able to open the file and move it to my programs.

If anyone has any tips on how I can fix this, please respond or PM me ASAP!

Thank you for this instructables! Used it today. You would think that for an expensive piece of software, Photoshop would already export icons without any help but I guess not.

this plugin works with cs4 alswell as with cs2

The later versions are largely backwards-compatible, so the above plug-in should work with CS4.

With me it only works with a 100 % invisible background if the background color chosen is black. If you choose any other color the backrground is trnsparent but visible. For the rest this instructable works fine over here. Cheers.

I found it much easier to just use the Alpha 1 channel from the Channel drop down, instead of creating a new channel. For some reason it wouldn't work correctly with the above instructions.

the picture apears fine but when i aply it to a cursor it comes up in black & white static like thing in the shape of the object but it just looks like a fedex tracker, whats the problem?

Um I tried saving mine but I do not see the crusor format. I downloaded the file and everything yet it doesn't work? What am I doing wrong or what am I not doing?

Thanks I did it and it worked, but the colors are messed  up.  I used a photo that i had and the colors of the cursor change depending on what i am hovering over, they are always the opposite of whatever is behind it.  Is there a way to fix it

I got the cursor to work, but the solid background color I picked changed to a magenta, and still shows.

I made one but there is a slightly transparent box around it where the solid color was. I was wondering if it might be because i used CS3 or if anybody has any suggestions on what i might have done wrong.

I used CS3. Perfect for me. What I assume went wrong was you didn't fill the background correctly. Quick tip. Alt + Del fills the selected area. Try that.
