Step 3:

Stack the "steps" on top of a 2x8 so that it fills the gap. The 2x8 should have 1 row of studs sticking out of each end.

Thanks for sharing. Found this after watching Adam from Mythbusters build a slightly larger version on Tested.

http://www.tested.com/art/lego/567839-adam-savages...

I made it on LDD (LEGO digital designer) and as soon as I got to step 8 I was like, thank god for copy and paste!

super cool!

Hello! I was wondering if you might be able to guide me (and my kids) as to how to make these awesome chocolate chip cookies out of legos? I assume there is a way something similar to how this ball is made... but I can't quite wrap my mind around it. I am the (newbie) Coach for our Lego League Team this year, and it would be SO awesome if the kids could make these for their Lego Tournament Presentation in a few weeks. Thanks for any help you could offer! :D

cool I never thought to make a ball with my square toys.

I'm very grateful for the instructions on this sphere. I normally make Lego mosaic portraits so working on a 3D light bulb was a challenge, but I applied the concept and here's what I have so far... Thank you again! -Brian from www.Brickworkz.com

The red could be a meteor
turn it grey and u have Lego Indiana Jones
Awsome ball- i finished all the sides but i cant find any of the 1x4 bricks with knobs :( .
I did manage to stick it together with tape but it was flimsy, i am still looking through my lego to find them.

Very cool.
LoL frog has a tounge XD
this has indiana jones written all over it.
Good thinking! Much better than the one that comes in the temple run set here.
exactly ;-0 ;
Awesome! How heavy is it, could it possibly be a christmas tree ornament?
It's hollow so it's not too heavy. LEGO actually featured a similar ball on the cover of a catalog a few years ago but didn't tell how to construct it or even sell the set! You can see it here: http://cache.lego.com/2057/images/shop/LandingPages/Ornament/catalog_278x348.jpg. I like the ribbon they use but I'm not sure how they attached it and I would probably use one of these http://media.peeron.com/pics/inv/custpics/2376.1072149497.jpg to hang it or to attach a hook or ribbon to.
Once again, you make an amazing shape!
Thanks. I realized I must be really into shapes lately after I reviewed my recent projects lol
Great! I am to give a try now.
cool i made 1 like this a few years back only mine was smooth i love the pics!!!
Smooth? Like you covered it in tiles?
not quite like that but if i find it i will show you what i mean
Isn't this just a lowell sphere? Either way nice job bringing it to the Instructables community, and great, easy instructions!

-Carl
@Sherrycayheyhey; Hi! Very clear instructions and photos. I love the little Lego man rolling the big Lego ball. Sort of a Lego Sisyphus! Cheers! Site
OK now i actually was planning on making an instructable on this :P

good job!
ya snooze ya lose :)
Very similar to the mini Lego Death Star:
http://web.me.com/chrismcveigh/mintinbox/home/Entries/2010/11/29_Lego_Death_Star_Ornament.html

and his other Lego tree ornaments:
http://www.chrismcveigh.com/cm/lego_ornaments.html
Ah, came here to post just this. I ordered the parts for the Death Star ornament, it does not disappoint. At all.
You never cease to amaze me with these awesome designs!
such kind words, thank you
*blushing* :P thanks!
WOW! this is AWESOME!!!!!!!
glad you like it, thank you
Oops! I think you meant to say "2x8" instead of "2x6" in this step (and step 10). Otherwise, an excellent instructable that we just may try to do! Love the "this-plus-this-equals-that" photos...
Thank you for catching that, fixed now :)
Ha, crazy! I love the little lego man's expressions when he is interacting with the ball.
Well it's heavy for a minifig haha
