Introduction: How to Make a Mustache Face Cake

Here's a fun cake to try. A mustache face cake is a fun, creative way to make a cake for some friends or family, or just for the heck of it!
You will need at least one cake mix and it's ingredients, if not two, chocolate and vanilla frosting, pink dye, 2 9-in rounds, muffin tins and papers, two marshmallow (one big and one mini), spatula, sprinkles, knife, and parchment paper.

1. What did you make?
This is a funny mustache face made of cake. It can be made complex or kept very simple, either way it is super cute and fun!

2. How did you make it?
Honestly, I thought of it in my head. I got some basic ideas off of Pinterest (the mustache), but I added details to it and changed it to make it my own. The eye balls I made on the go, along with the eyebrows and texture of the mustache. I did everything by myself, but I did get some input from my dad on what he thought.

3. Where did you make it?
I made this cake at home. Mixed it on the counter, baked it in the oven, and cut, frosted, and decorated it on the kitchen counter. I make cakes constantly, and that is because I am planning to go to culinary school soon to follow my dreams of becoming a pastry chef.

4. What did you learn?
I tend to challenge myself too much and end up failing miserably. This cake taught me to take it slow and stay simple so I can do something easy but nice, instead of trying to go too big and getting to frustrated and giving up. If I were to make this cake again, I probably would have gone bigger :) I do not like to do simple things, so I might have done a curlier mustache or pipped on eyes.

Step 1: Make the Cake

First, you must make either homemade cake or a boxed cake mix - whatever you prefer. You need at least 1 9-in round and 2 muffin sized cupcakes. (I made double just in case I made a mistake or decided to make two!)

Step 2: Baking

Now, bake the cake!! (The round compared to the muffins will bake at different times so watch carefully.)

Step 3: Cooling

Take the cakes out of the oven. Allow them to cool to room temperature.

Step 4: Shaping

First, using a knife, shallow line across the cake so you have a guild line  Then, cut the curve lines of the mustache (if unsure how to cut the curves, place the muffins on different sides at a slight diagonal on the cake for a better guide).

Step 5: Placing

One half of the mustache will flip over to create the whole mustache.

Step 6: More Cutting

Now, you're going to cut a mouth. Take some parchment paper and place it under the cake, where the two piece of the mustache meet, and trace a stencil. Using either the other round or a muffin use the stencil to cut the exact shape.

Step 7: Placement

Now, put all your pieces together.

Step 8: Frosting

When it comes to frosting you want to do the lightest color first. So, begin with the eyes. You can piping on the amount of frosting you want, like I did, or you can just plop and spread.

Step 9: Frosting 2

Next, frost the tongue or mouth part and frost that a pink color, or the color of your choice.

Step 10: Frosting 3

Lastly, you'll frost the mustache part of the cake. I plopped my frosting on for this part and spread it around.

Step 11: Frosting Texture

Then I came back with a tool to give the mustache a textured-hairy look.

Step 12: Finishing the Eyes

For the final touches I finished the eyes with sprinkles, one large marshmallow and one small marshmallow; then for the final touch I gave him eyebrows made from scrap cake.

Step 13: Done!

And that's it!! :)
