Introduction: How to Make a Nuka Cola Quantum Lamp

I made this lamp as a gift for a very good friend. I make props as a hobbie and decided: "i should make my friend something!" I thought and thought about what to make him, when it dawned on me that he loved Fallout. This prop was born. In this instructable i will explain to you how to make a weathered Nuka Cola Quantum from start to finish. As well as, how to make a optional lamp stand base. Are you ready? This is a moderate difficulty build.

Step 1: TOOLS NEEDED

TOOLS YOU WILL NEED FOR THIS:

-POWER DRILL WITH LARGE DRILL BIT

-RESPIRATOR

-SCISSORS

PARTS NEEDED WILL BE LISTED AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH STAGE

Step 2: PROPER ORDER OF STEPS

DO THESE IN THIS ORDER:

3) BOTTLE WEATHERING

LAMP BUILD INTSRUCTIONS AT END

Step 3: 1) LIQUID INSIDE

PARTS:

-WATER

-RUBBING ALCOHOL

-BLUE FOOD COLORING

-CLEANED BOTTLE (glass soda bottle with screw on cap)

STEPS:

DO THIS QUICKLY...THE LESS EVAPORATED RUBBING ALCOHOL THE BETTER.

1) FILL WITH WATER.

2) ADD 2 TABLESPOONS RUBBING ALCOHOL.

TIP: FLUID SHOULD BE ALMOST TO THE BRIM...BUT NOT COMPLETELY.

FACT: THE RUBBING ALCOHOL KEEPS THE WATER FROM GROWING MOLD.

3) ADD 3 DROPS BLUE FOOD COLORING (make sure the color matches the Quantum Blue color you are trying to achieve).

4) ADD CAP QUICKLY AND SHAKE UNTIL MIXED.

Step 4: 2) LABELS

PARTS:

-PRINTED LABELS (see bottom of page for links to the labels)

-CRAFT GLUE

-WATER

-SCISSORS

STEPS:

1) CUTOUT LABELS.

2) RUN UNDER GENTLE WATER.

3) GENTLY DRY(paper should still have water soaked in. Just make sure it is not dripping water).

4) APPLY CRAFT GLUE TO BACK AND SPREAD WITH FINGERS GENTLY, CREATE A THIN EVEN COAT.

5) QUICKLY PLACE ONTO DESIRED AREA AND GENTLY SMOOTH UNTIL CONTOUR WITH SURFACE.

TIP: WHEN PUTTING CAP LABEL ON, AFTER APPLYING LABEL TO CAP RUN INDER GENTLE ATER AGAIN. THEN GET A TOWEL AND PRESS GENTLY DOWN UNTIL THE LABEL IS CONTOUR WITH THE CAP SURFACE.

TIP: WHEN THE BOTTLE LABEL IS APPLIED, PAT IT WITH THE ABRASIVE SIDE OF A SPONGE A FEW TIMES

Step 5: 3) BOTTLE WEATHERING

PARTS:

-FINE DIRT

-CLEAR COAT SPRAY

-WASHABLE CRAFT GLUE

STEPS:

1) COVER SOME AREAS WITH WASHABLE CRAFT GLUE.

2) ALLOW CRAFT GLUE TO DRY.

3) SPRAY CLEAR COAT.

4) ALLOW CLEAR COAT TO DRY, UNTIL IT IS DRY TO THE TOUCH.

5) RUB OFF WASHABLE CRAFT GLUE ABRASIVELY WITH HANDS (make sure hands are dry prior to doing this step).

6) DUST BOTTLE WITH FINE DIRT.

7) SPRAY CLEAR COAT AGAIN (spray it lightly this time. lightly; hold can farther away and shorten the spray time).

8) ALLOW CLEAR COAT TO DRY.

FACT: THE CLEAR COAT LAYER OVER THE FINE DIRT HOLDS IN THE DIRT, MAKING IT LOOK DIRTY BUT NOT GETTING OTHER THINGS DIRTY.

Step 6: 4) LAMP

PARTS:

-BEAT UP METAL STEW CAN

-PRINTED AD CUT OUT NUKA COLA LABEL OF YOUR CHOOSING

-CRAFT GLUE

-FINE DIRT

-CLEAR COAT SPRAY

-WATER

-STICK AND CLICK LIGHT

STEPS:

1) ADD LABEL LIKE INSTRUCTED BEFORE(see step 2, AKA "2) LABELS".not like the cap label process).

2) DRILL LARGE HOLE IN BOTTOM OF CAN CENTER.

3) COVER WITH FINE DIRT.

4) SPRAY CLEAR COAT LIGHTLY.

5) ALLOW CLEAR COAT TO DRY.

6) PUT STICK AND CLICK LIGHT UNDER UPSIDE DOWN CAN.

7) PUT NUKA COLA QUANTUM ON TOP OF CAN BOTTOM (centered over drilled hole).

DONE!
