How to Make a Nunchaku ( Nunchucks or Speedchucks)

How to Make a Nunchaku ( Nunchucks or Speedchucks)

WARNING! The Nunchaku is illegal in some states, check your country's laws BEFORE doing this. When using the Nunchaku, be careful, it's illegal for a reason, you could hurt yourself or somebody else without proper training or maturity. I'm not responsible for any injuries that this may cause. Keep these things in mind.

The nunchaku is two stick connected by a chain. It's a interesting martial art weapon because, unlike other weapon, you must be gentle with it. If you act rude or 'jerky' ( No idea what that really mean....) it will hit you, act gentle and smooth, it will protect you. The Nunchaku is used for some thing like :  Combat ( In Karate, with protections ), Semi-Combat ( With invisible opponent ) and Artistic Nunchaku ( Maybe the hardest of all ). After this Introdution, let's get started!

Step 1Finding what you will need

Finding what you will need
You will need:

A wood stick of Aprox. 80 CM
10 CM of metal chain
2 Long nails
Circular saw
Drill

Optional:

Foam and cutter
Grinder
Duct tape
Green belt in Karate

You can buy a woodstick at any good construction store or you can make your own with a stick from a tree and grind it to make it rounder. the chain is also easy to find, I bought mine at an hardware store.

This is not a safe way to attach the chain, nor is there much chance that chain is strong enough to take the force of being used.

There is a good reason to use rope instead of chain. If you're at risk of getting caught with them, just cut the rope, and you're just got two sticks.

Nun-chucks are dangerous weapons that can cause the wielder serious injury. Please seek out a qualified professional to train with them. Also, while your local laws may vary, they are technically illegal in New York State. I live in New York, and my former Sensei told me that he knew they were illegal, but he had never had a problem with any of his students having them. One student was the child of a police officer. Still, good to know what the law is, right? NOTE: I'm not saying "DON'T USE NUN-CHUCKS!" I'm just saying they are dangerous and, in New York State, illegal. Do with that information as you see fit.

Also, it's only illegal if you carry them in public. If you make them for educational or recreational use inside your home, you will break no laws whatsoever.

See my reply below. Possession alone in NY State is illegal. Even in your house. Stupid, but the truth.

Based on the definition below, unless the foam was so floppy that it made the sticks not worth having, they'd still be illegal. It just makes no sense that you can carry a gun, but not two sticks of wood and/or foam connected by a piece of rope.

no one learns from mr know- it- alls who have to correct everyone, theyre just annoyed by them. . something to think about..incidentally, you still havent provided any proof that theyre illegal to have in your home. your "definition below" lists "any firearms" as the first weapon and later in the comment you admit that guns are legal. so dont be so gung ho man.

A lot of where these kinds of laws come from is gang associations. People saw them as a gang weapon, so in an attempt to stem gang action, they were made illegal (in the manner stated in another comment). It is still a good point to question the legality of firearms despite that, but that's how it is.

Hmm, I'm from NY too, and I always thought the law stated it was illegal to buy or import nunchaku into the state (similar to the laws against throwing knives, sword-canes, balisongs, etc.) and to carry them openly or concealed in public areas, but it wasn't illegal to own them or use them in a privately-owned building...with owner consent, of course. I may be wrong - they change the laws so often now - but I believe they fall under the same law as chain whips, which follow the above restrictions. Either way though, I totally agree - I've known people ticketed or even arrested for carrying illegal weapons on the streets...the penalties are rather stiff now.

Could have sworn I replied to this. NY Penal code 265.00 (14): . "Chuka stick" means any device designed primarily as a weapon, consisting of two or more lengths of a rigid material joined together by a thong, rope or chain in such a manner as to allow free movement of a portion of the device while held in the hand and capable of being rotated in such a manner as to inflict serious injury upon a person by striking or choking. These devices are also known as nunchakus and centrifugal force sticks. NY Penal Code 265.01: A person is guilty of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree when: (1) He or she possesses any firearm, electronic dart gun, electronic stun gun, gravity knife, switchblade knife, pilum ballistic knife, metal knuckle knife, cane sword, billy, blackjack, bludgeon, plastic knuckles, metal knuckles, chuka stick, sand bag, sandclub, wrist-brace type slingshot or slungshot, shirken or "Kung Fu star"; or This was upheld by at least one appeals courts as NOT violating the Constitutional right to bear arms. So, as stupid as it seems, it is illegal just to posses them. Now, if we were to all get together and found the NMAWA (Nation Martial Arts Weapons Association), and lobby Washington the way the NRA does, I'm sure we could change their minds. :) Stupid rules. The appeals court even said that they were only designed to maim and/or kill people. Well, what do you think a gun does? And a gun doesn't do it in close proximity to people! If a gun is legal, why the heck isn't this legal? If you want, require a weapons license to carry/possess them, just like you do for a gun. But to outlaw them completely is just stupid.
