Hello, everyone! This is my first instructable, and I will be teaching you how to make a Pabu Pocket Pebble Pet! Pabu is the cute little fire ferret from Legend of Korra. Fire ferrets look an awful lot like red pandas, so you can call this a red panda if you prefer. This is a fun project that can be done in about an hour.

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies

You will need:

-A smooth, roundish rock small enough to fit in your pocket
-Acrylic paint
-Paintbrushes (it makes it a lot easier if you use a very small paintbrush)
-Spray finish (optional)

It's also nice to have paper towels to wipe the brushes on, newspaper to put down on your table so you won't get paint on it, a cup of water to rinse your brushes in, and a paper plate for mixing paint.

As soon as you've got your supplies, you're ready to begin!

Step 2: Sketch It Out

Sketch out a basic Pabu on the rock. It helps to look at reference photos while you're working! :) If your rock is darker in color, you can use a piece of chalk for your sketch. You can use a variety of positions--this is just the one I chose. You can also use differently shaped rocks and adapt/change the design.

Step 3: Start Painting!

I started with Pabu's main body color. Mix red and brown together, then start painting! Use the photos for directions.

Step 4: Painting the Markings Under the Eyes and the Tail Rings

Add a bit of black to the existing mixture (not too much!) This is for the markings under the eyes and the tail rings.

Step 5: Paint the Legs, Nose, Ears, and Face

First, add a little more black to the same mixture you used for the tail rings and eye markings. Use this to paint the legs and the inside of the ears. Add a little more black, and use it to paint the nose.

Next, squirt out some white paint and use it for the ears and the face.

Step 6: Paint the Eyes

Painting the eyes is easier than it looks--look at the image for instructions.

Step 7: Outlining

You're almost done! To make everything look more defined and clear, you're going to outline everything in black. This will also make it look more cartoony, like the real Pabu! Use your smallest brush and work slowly--it takes a bit of patience. If you have a black pen or marker that will show up on a rock, it might be easier to use that instead.

Step 8: Shading

This last step is optional. You can be done now if you want! I decided to add a bit of shading, just to make it look a bit better. This is also the time to touch it up and fix any mistakes.

After you're satisfied with everything, you can spray it with fixative. This may darken the colors a bit--it did for mine. It makes everything look nice and shiny, though, and protects the paint from scratching off.

Step 9: You're Done!

You now have a cute Pabu that can easily be slipped into a pocket! I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. If you have any questions, feel free to comment!
