How to Make a Startup Key

Want to make your computer more secure? Have an old flash drive or floppy disk that you want to use? Then make a startup key! I got this out of the magazine 'Computer Shopper.'

Step 1 Manage

Do what the picture does. Right click on My Computer and click Manage.

....after this step my flash drive burst into flames... if i hadnt hesitated and checked the drive my computer woud be fubar by now, my only key being some melted plastic and metal... did this happen to anybody else?

How do you undo this process if you dont want to use the flash drive?

I lost my drive and i cant get into my computer what do I do?

Go into safe mode and go into the main administrator.

Get a bootable linux cd and change a few things...

Can more than you make more than one startup key?

you migh be able to if you copy the registry file that doing this creates onto other flash drives, but i think that they would also have to be the A drive. having multiple drives with the same name isn't possible, though.

Nah, He means you shouldn't release your drive into the wild where, lacking any natural predators, it may wreak havoc upon the food chain!

Natural Predators? Are they invisible?

Not quite. The most effective predators towards the common flash drive are the Iunior sanctimonialis, or the Younger Sister and "Taedium Canis", or the Bored Dog. Either of these destructive creatures can rarely be found in the wild, thus your flash drive will live a peaceful life.

However, a deterrent towards either predator in the urban environment would be a squirt bottle. Hopefully your flash drive will be happy, whatever decision you make. :]

I think that you can do syskey again after putting it in your PC...

you can do a system restore if you still have a restore point from before you made the key.
