Introduction: How to Make an Aerobic Stepper

This instructable will show you how to make an aerobic stepper out of old used wine boxes. My wife takes step classes at our local YMCA and wanted a stepper so she could workout at home and this was my solution.

Step 1: Materials

(4) Empty Wine Boxes
Drawer Liner
Glue
Cardboard
Duct Tape
Utility Knife

Step 2: Preparing the Wine Boxes

Pull open the box flap that holds the pour spout in place, then remove and discard the plastic wine bag from all of the boxes.

Step 3: Bracing the Inside of the Wine Boxes

Cut two pieces of cardboard the width of the wine box and draw a line in the middle of each piece and half of the width. Cut on the two lines so now your two pieces of cardboard can be joined together to form a big X. At this point the two pieces will fold together and can easily be inserted into the box opening and spread out. Also, note that at this time you can add a small amount of glue to the cardboard ends, when dry this will keep the cardboard from shifting when in use. Repeat the step on the other boxes.

Step 4: Securing the Boxes

Now take Duct tape and cover the openings on all of the boxes. Then take two boxes and very tightly wrap tape around both ends just as if you were putting a bow on a present. This must be very tight so that there isn’t any slack in the tape and it also makes the next step easier.

Step 5: Finnish Taping

Place the boxes end to end and start taping in the middle and work your way outwards. The more Duct tape you use the tougher your step is going to be. I covered my step two complete times until my wife decided she wanted it white, so it got a third application and now seems to be indestructible. After taping was finished I doubled up four or five box length pieces of tape and attached it to the bottom of the step, and secured a piece of drawer liner. This made the step safe so that it wouldn’t slide while in use.

Step 6: It's Durable

I weigh 215 pounds and can step on and off with very little give whatsoever.

Step 7: Alternative Use

My three year old son has found another use for the stepper. We found him using it to stand on while brushing his teeth. I guess I’ll have to make another.
