iPhone case w design.JPG
This is my first instructable and I will show you how to design an iPhone 4s case using SolidWorks which you can print out using a 3D printer.  This YouTube video shows how to model the case and has all the right dimensions.

I uploaded the actual SolidWorks 2011 case file and an STL file.

Step 1:

iPhone case.JPG
The iPhone 4s template I used to get all the dimensions can be found in the the following link:
http://grabcad.com/library/iphone-4-4s-white-black-versions-available.
I also attached a picture of all the measurements of the case itself.

Step 2: Renderings

Here are some of the iPhone case Renderings.

Step 3: Print Out Case Using 3D Printer

After you finish drawing the file, save it as .stl file and send it to the printer.

Step 4: Final Product

What printer are you using?
Penolopy Bulnick in reply to dansaul0413May 29, 2012. 10:17 PM
You should be able to use any 3D printer :)
newton.95.dan (author) in reply to Penolopy BulnickMay 31, 2012. 3:18 PM
It can be used in any printer, that's why I included the .stl file
dansaul0413 in reply to newton.95.danJun 1, 2012. 12:34 AM
Yeah I know it can be used pretty much with any 3d printer. I was just wondering what printer you used.

How about exporting and including and a .OBJ in your Instructable that that anyone could mod?
mstyle183 in reply to ppatchenFeb 24, 2012. 10:20 AM
i have a .obj model in my instructable don't forget to vote for me too :)

From my point of view, a "draw&print" tutorial is... not a tutorial.

Besides that, great final product.
Krayzi99 in reply to PeugasFeb 19, 2012. 8:42 PM
I greatly disagree.
mstyle183 says: Feb 15, 2012. 9:12 AM
i have a similar case that just got shipped out today... it took almost 3 weeks to be made at some online website..
great design!

done :)

how much $$?
mstyle183 in reply to astroboy907Feb 16, 2012. 10:28 AM
it was about 19 bucks to get it printed.. not including taxes or shipping .. :*(
newton.95.dan (author) in reply to mstyle183Feb 15, 2012. 11:46 AM
Thanks! Did you design the case yourself?
mstyle183 in reply to newton.95.danFeb 15, 2012. 11:49 AM
yup.. i'm making a video and putting it up soon.. it has a money clip, credit card and id holders, headphone holder and a bottle opener :)
newton.95.dan (author) in reply to mstyle183Feb 15, 2012. 12:45 PM
Thats great.. You should definitely give me the link when you post the video.

i edited the video last night.. its rendering today..

I used SolidWorks to draw it.
solemnraven in reply to newton.95.danFeb 16, 2012. 7:05 PM
It said that in the instructable...if you bothered to read the first sentence.
solemnraven says: Feb 16, 2012. 9:42 AM
I would have preferred a few more steps from how to get from point 1 to point 2.

Are you talking about more detail in how to design the case?
solemnraven in reply to newton.95.danFeb 16, 2012. 7:04 PM
Yes that. For example how (if you had) went from the sketch drawing to the model.
solemnraven in reply to solemnravenFeb 16, 2012. 7:11 PM
I'm sorry I see now that you included a video to explain that part.

It doesn't really show every step clearly but I believe that was what I was asking for. Thanks.
newton.95.dan (author) in reply to solemnravenFeb 17, 2012. 1:33 PM
Well all the drawing has to be done within an assembly so you can just sketch over the iphone.
Bullit11 says: Feb 16, 2012. 1:05 PM
Do you know what's the volume of the case?
newton.95.dan (author) in reply to Bullit11Feb 16, 2012. 5:56 PM
Hey could I get you to vote for me for the make it real challenge. Thanks.
newton.95.dan (author) in reply to Bullit11Feb 16, 2012. 3:11 PM
The volume of the case without the design is 1.23 cubic inches and the one with the design is 1.04 cubic inches
mazmoiz says: Feb 16, 2012. 10:11 AM
Hi, thanks for this instructable.
Can you please tell me which 3D printer is this? Printing resolution looks very impressive.
newton.95.dan (author) in reply to mazmoizFeb 16, 2012. 3:20 PM
Its a Dimension BST 1200. Thats what we use in my school.

question what is that round design at the bottom? it looks like a guy with headphones?
newton.95.dan (author) in reply to mstyle183Feb 15, 2012. 11:47 AM
That design was just something I did in a hurry to get it printed out in my engineering class.. I've had some people tell me it looks like a bull.
mstyle183 in reply to newton.95.danFeb 15, 2012. 11:54 AM
interesting.. it looks like some kinda earphone holders for a second
