For the Pirate's of the Caribbean fans, you'll probably recognize this game. I was taught this game while I was stopped for the night on my recent cross country road trip of sorts. Liar Dice, or Liar's Dice or Perudo or Dudo or Call My Bluff or Mexacali (a drinking game equivalent) or doubting dice or etc is an easy game to pick up but you're likely to have a harder time learning much strategy as it's difficult to anticipate moves.

Step 1: What you'll need

For this version of the game, you'll need:

5 Dice per player
1 Dice cup per player (anything to obscure your roll from your opponent(s))

You'll also need at least one other person to play with, but having at least three is recommended.

Bah, Aesthetic, that disney game is just poorly made. The AI's dumb. If you want a real game, try bugging your FB friends to play here: http://apps.facebook.com/casinoliarsdicebeta/index.php

After rolling but before looking at the dice, it is often a good idea to give the cup a small swirl on the table. This bunches the dice together, making them easier to read and making it easier to place the cup over the dice without further disturbing them. Do this before you look, and do it gently, as there is a chance you may change the value of a die when you do this.

There actually was an official "Pirates Dice" game released under the POC Deadmans chest logo. It came with 24 "pirate dice" and 4 cups, that resemble in appearence the ones in the movie. its a fun game to play with friends!

"The challenge loser places one die in front of his/her cup -- and is not to be used for the remainder of the game. The loser gets the first turn on the next round and the game continues until only one player remains."

Is that right? It seems like going first would be a good thing.

It is, unless you're caught in a lie :p If you only have one die left, and you call 4 fives... Well, it's obvious you're counting on the other players to have some fives. The game favors the round loser - which keeps players in a little longer ;)

Ah, wasn't this in the second Pirates of the Caribbean? I had been wondering if they had been playing an actual game, or just making it up as they went along. Hehe, I was just about to ask about those swanky dice cups. :P

Coffee Cup Dice Cups :p Yep, they were playing an actual game :) Albeit the abridged movie version -- but it's an actual game :)
