Bar-b-Que shredded pork is one of the most delicious foods out there. Luckily for you, you don't need a Bar-b-Que pit and years of experience to make your own version!

What you need:

6+ quart Slow Cooker
3-6 lb Pork Shoulder from your local grocery store
1 tsp salt
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 bottle Bar-b-Que sauce (your preference)
Sandwich bread
Gallon Size Plastic Bag
Teaspoon
1/2 cup measuring cup
Two Forks
Bowl
Microwave-safe Bowl
Plate or Cutting Board
Refrigerator
Microwave
Alarm Clock
Time

Step 1: Making the Dry Rub

The dry rub will go on the outside of the Pork Shoulder to enhance the flavor while it is cooking. The following recipe will make enough dry rub to coat most pork shoulders, but if you find that you got an especially large shoulder, you can double the recipe.

Combine the following into a bowl and mix well:

1 tsp salt
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp cayenne pepper
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 cup brown sugar

Take the pork shoulder out of the packaging it came in and rub the dry rub onto all sides of it.

Step 2: Cooking

Before you put the pork shoulder into the slow cooker, you should make sure to rinse out the ceramic bowl inside it to make sure there's no dust or other additives that we don't want in the final product.

With your pork shoulder prepared with the dry rub, you can place it in your slow cooker's ceramic cooking bowl. If there is a layer of fat on your cut of pork, then have that section be on top to allow the fat to drizzle down during cooking. Place this bowl into the slow cooker, and then cover it with the lid. Plug the slow cooker into an outlet and turn it on low. Set an alarm for 10 to 12 hours from now.

Now would be a good time to take a nap.

After your alarm has gone off indicating 10-12 hours have passed, it is now time to let the pork cool off. Turn the slow cooker off, and allow it to sit for another 2 hours.

Step 3: Shredding the Pork

Now that your cooked pork shoulder has cooled off, you can begin shredding it. Take the lid off the slow cooker, and ready a plate and your two forks.

Shred the meat:

Begin by taking a chunk of the pork out of the slow cooker and putting them on your plate
With your two forks, rip and shred the section of meat into 1-2" long pieces
Discard any bones that you come across
Put this shredded pork into a container such as a gallon size plastic bag or bowl
Repeat these steps until there is no further pork in the slow cooker

Discard any juice or bones left in the slow cooker and thoroughly clean it.

Step 4: Eat or Refrigerate

From this point, you can either eat the shredded pork now, or save it for later in your refrigerator.

Eating it:

Grab two slices of bread, and shovel some pork onto one of the slices
Pour 1-2 tsp of Bar-b-Que sauce on the pork (more or less if desired)
Cover the pork with the remaining slice and eat it.

Reheating from the refrigerator:

Place a sandwich-sized portion of shredded pork into a microwave-safe bowl
Microwave the bowl with pork for 30-40 seconds
Follow the "Eating it" instructions

Hah, thanks! I don't think we have ever cleaned it.
