Hehe. I love soldering guides. If I can add my 2 cents, I'd suggest you don't wipe the tip off before putting the iron away. Always put fresh solder on it right after you wipe it. So if you're lazy, then only wipe it right before you solder something, not afterward.

if you leave an iron to 'dry out' (leave it switched on with no solder on the tip) it relly damages the iron because of the oxidisation. obviously this happens anyway but heat speeds up chemical processes. I built a simply standby switch / extension lead / crude heat controller using a cheapo dimmer switch ( when one is not using the iron simply turn the heat down).
