Introduction: Solve a Rubik's Cube

Rubik's Cube is a mechanical puzzle invented in 1974 by Hungarian sculptor and professor of architecture ErnQ Rubik. Originally called the "Magic Cube" by its inventor, this puzzle was renamed "Rubik's Cube" by Ideal Toys in 1980 [1] and also won the 1980 German Game of the Year special award for Best Puzzle. It is said to be the world's best-selling toy, with some 300,000,000 Rubik's Cubes and imitations sold worldwide. For more info, click here

Step 1: The Notations

Before you can build a rubik's cube, you first need to identify what is the parts. There are:

F-Front face
R-right face
U-upper face
L-left face
D-down or lower face
B-back face

All of them to be turned clockwise, except they have apostrophes after the letter, like F', you should turn the front face counter clockwise.and if you had U2, you should turn the upper face twice, regardless on the way of turning. if you are given R'DRD' , you should turn the right side counter clockwise, down side clockwise, right side clockwise, and down side counter. Well, do this ''algorithm''6 times on a cube in solve state, you'll make it solve again. Trust me.

Step 2: The Cross

Since you already know the notation, let's begin the cubing. You first need to have the cross on one face. this will be your base. And the cross should be right in the other colors.

Step 3: The First Layer

After the cross you should make the first layer. if you think these both steps are difficult and worrying on other steps, take a break. the other steps will be easy. If you had made the first layer, it should have the T-like on the other color

Step 4: The Second Layer

now, things should be done easier. you are now building the second layer. You should align the colored to the piece where it is supposed to. if you had the first picture as your state, do this algorithm on the side where is the missing piece. In my state, i should face on the white.
URU'R'U'F'UF

and on the vice versa, do this:
U'L'ULU'FU'F'

do this until the whole second layer is solved.

Step 5: The Top Cross

After you had finish the second layer, you should first make a top cross above the other layers. There are 2 states. If you had the first state, do it below on the contrary, WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T DO THIS ALGORITHM ON THE OTHER FACE. Trust me.

FURU'R'F'

if you had the second state, do this:

FRUR'U'F'

Step 6: Still, the Cross

Looks like the cross you had made is wrong. The colors does not match right. don't worry, we'll fix it up. All you have to do is to find two right edge in their correct positions. if you had it, do this algorithm on the left of the left side of the the correct two. then do this"

RUR'URU2R'U

It should be correct. then we move to the next step.

Step 7: Moving the Corners

You will move now the corners to their proper places. first you should find a correct corner. then face on color which the corner is in the right side. it is in the right side because it won't harm it when you do this algorithm. and of course, the corner you'll going to pick should be disregarded whatever its position .

L'URU'LUR'

It should be correct, if not, do it again.

The sequence of the corners will be counter clockwise. See it for yourself.

Step 8: Last Step Permuting the Corners.

This algorithm looks like destroying the positions, but trust me, it won't. Do this algorithm.

R'DRD'

Looks familiar? it is. it is the one that i gave it to you one the notations part.
Do it until it has formed on the correct position.
if you had formed it, moved the upper side where the upper right corner is unsolved. do it again. do it again until the whole cube is finished

It looks like you'll just rotate the corner pieces according to their correct position. it is.

Step 9: Finished!

Looks like you had made your first cube. i'm not wrong . but if your still wondering why some people solve in matter of seconds? well there are other methods. the one i taught you is just basic. there are many other methods, like the most popular, the Fridrich method. but that is an another method.

and by the way, congratulations on your first cube.
