Introduction: How to Stand Up in a Street Fight! (The Video)

This situation is where one combatant is knocked down, and the other remains standing up. I will demonstrate how to get back to your feet safely while an opponent is standing over you throwing punches and kicks.

*NOTE* Do NOT break your fall by slapping your forearms/hands against the pavement when breaking your fall on a hard surface like the street or sidewalk, . You can injure yourself. Just bend your knees, tuck your chin, and roll on your back. You should ONLY use your hands/forearms to break your fall (like I demonstrated on the video) on a soft surface.

Excellent vid! My previous instructor and I had this ongoing debate about this scenario. He advocated staying on your back and using scissor kicks to keep your opponent at bay til he went away!! I advocated getting up quickly before buddies friends droped a cinder block on your head or dogpiled on you while you're laying there. I finally convinced him of the merits of my viewpoint, but we never came up with a completely satisfactory way to get up without exposing ourselves to further attack. This technique nicely minimizes the risk. I'm gonna point it out to him...
