Ever wanted your own natural dreadlocks? In this video Doc will show you the backcombing method to start your own dreads!

For this tutorial you will need:

Step 1: Section

At the nape, part away a section of hair and clip the remainder up and out of the way. If you're not totally confident with your sectioning, refer to our sectioning tutorial in our early instructables!

Step 2: Backcomb

Backcomb the section of hair. Start by using long sweeping strokes, getting tighter with each pass. Don't worry if your dread is stiff, that's totally normal!

Step 3: Tie

Bind the base of the dread by pinching the base of the dread, wrapping one tail of thread around it four times, and then tying it into place. Continue working in sections until you have completed the entire head.
