How to Surf the Internet Anonymously  by burningion
In this instructable, I'll show you how to make a DemocraKey, a portable privacy suite that's open source and free.

You can make a DemocraKey run on an iPod, USB key, digital camera, or any other portable media you can think of.

From the DemocraKey website:

It provides a layer of protection from viruses, a layer of protection from people trying to see what sites you're visiting, and a layer of protection to stop hackers from viewing files you don't want them to.

In a word, it does what computers already should do: Look out for your privacy and security.

A DemocraKey is a portable piece of software that works on any computer. Just walk up, plug in a DemocraKey, and you can be assured your files are much safer, your computer is better protected while browsing the web, and nobody will be able to tell which site you're visiting.

Video bellow if you want to skip the lame reading:

First, download the DemocraKey software (50 meg download) here.

Plug in your iPod or USB key, and let your computer recognize it.

Then run the installer.

Isn't it available to Linux?
RedFlash says: May 8, 2009. 9:28 PM
It doesn't work!!! I tried it and it says that it cannot establish a link to the server. I'm on a wireless connection with comodo firewall protection and avast antivirus. What should I do?
!Andrew_Modder! says: Apr 24, 2007. 2:01 PM
cool, but your ip is still logged...(non stealth...) so this doenst really, umm do much sorry! :-(
Ferrite says: Mar 28, 2009. 1:30 PM
IP addresses change daily. The government traces people through MAC addresses. This TOR program replaces you MAC address with another, making it anonymous.
burningion (author) says: Apr 24, 2007. 6:22 PM
actually, your ip isn't logged. this encrypts your connection and then routes it through a proxy. You're 100% anonymous. Check the software out, it runs TOR. tor.eff.org

so ur saying i could go download non released videos and child pornography (I WILL NEVER EVER...EVER DOWNLOAD CHILD XXX) from a IRAA website and be 100% stealth....?.... (im just using this as an example, i DO NOT really download child xxx or non released movies!! NEVER, just using it as an example) lol ya it was a very drastic example, but hey..

More like pseudonymous. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tor_(anonymity_network)#Weaknesses Tor] has it's weaknesses.
Neodudeman says: Apr 15, 2008. 9:41 PM
Exactly.
!Andrew_Modder! says: Apr 16, 2008. 12:53 PM

The_Vinninator says: Feb 26, 2009. 8:23 PM
not trying to be a heckler, but you can run tor seamlessly with Firefox whenever you want to
the virus scanner may work though
but your safest option is logging on to an email client through https (socks v3)

Cool.... but you could just use Linux and avoid just about any problems provided u can learn how to use it. I'm on a Linux box right now, actually!
Sharn says: May 5, 2007. 8:02 PM
Ahem... no. You're a little wrong on that one. Places like schools and public access points can track what you do and where you go anyhow whether in linux or windows. This is coming from an occasional linux user, so I'm not trying to bash you or anything. It really comes down to bad sites that get you. A phishing site can and will get you no matter what if you use it. This protects your IP and address - but you have to use your own sense no matter what OS you are on.
newkiraj says: Jul 7, 2007. 3:04 PM
lol when i said "just about any" i was refering to viruses , spyware, adware, ect. No matter what ur using, u still have to use common sense
TheCheese9921 says: Apr 27, 2007. 5:00 PM
will it work on a psp (im running 2.6 firmware :( don't have it in me to downgrade)
ZachPosey says: May 29, 2007. 7:25 AM
cmon man you dont know how much your missing in homebrew i downgraded my 3.03 and when i did that i was scared as hell but it worked im now on 3.03oe (custom firmware) also this is for u2 compatible flashdrives (atleast thats what most of portable apps is) you coud put it on a psp but youd have to transfer it to the pc fisrt to use is
TheCheese9921 says: May 30, 2007. 4:26 PM
I'm so afraid to downgrade I haven't had it to long, but can you play newer games like that one with the jello type things and like metal gear solid n stuff
vader406 says: Jun 26, 2007. 1:29 PM
The risk of bricking your psp when downgrading is about the same as a computer crashing while software is installed...
TheCheese9921 says: Jun 26, 2007. 5:21 PM
yes but you can always fix a crashed computer, you can't always fixed a crashed psp
tondelayo says: Jun 10, 2007. 5:57 AM
Only for Windows machines in any case. No Macs, should be noted somewhere.
masterrecycler says: Apr 27, 2007. 9:28 PM
you can just bring in a fast spyware sweeper like malwaresweeper (free download from downloads.com) it finds just bout everything
climber_geek says: Apr 24, 2007. 2:26 PM
Hey that looks nice! Do you know how to protect your pc from keystroke loggers? I like to work at public wifi hotspots, but I fear that a hacker might be able to get my passwords by using a keystroke logging program.
