Picture of How to Survive a Zombie Invasion.
This guide will help you in case there is nuclear warfare and everyone turns into a zombie. I caution you that this information might not help because I have not in fact seen an actual zombie.

Step 1: People

Picture of People
The first step to survive a zombie attack is to have people with you. This is in my opinion is the number one way to survive. What about weapons and food you say, well calm down and let me explain. Say all you had were people and a zombie starts running at you. What do you do? You push a fellow survivor down so the zombie stops to take care of him and you and your group run to safety. You may think this is mean, but think of it this way. It's either you or him.

Step 2: Weapons

Picture of Weapons
Slide 3 Shotgun.jpg
One of your top priorities is to get weapons. But not just any weapon is good. For a melee weapon, your weapon must be at least four feet long so the zombie can't claw you, light so that you can use it faster, and must be able to take a zombie's head off on the first or second hit. A good example is an axe or chainsaw. For a firearm, it must be able to kill a zombie on the first or second shot. It must also be light weight if you don't have a  shelter, be fast and easy to reload, and have plenty of ammo. If you don't have a shelter, a good gun is a pistol, preferably a desert eagle or a magnum. If you have a shelter, a good weapon would be a shotgun or a rifle of any kind.

this wont work at all, because ZOMBIES AREN'T REAL!!! and they never will be.

i doubt u would have much luck scavenging .50 cal ammo on the road... A more common but still large pistol round would be the .40 or .45 cal acp. i would reccomend pairing a short range weapon in 9mm or .40 cal. with with a pistol caliber carbine rifle which can take the same mags and ammo. a good example would be the sub-2000 and g-17; or g-22 and sub-2000 chambered for .40 cal, or su-16A. also how are u just going to go to the dock and find a ship with no zombies? U also need to have people in the group with knolegde of guns(how to take apart, clean, put back together etc.) and medical training. Ammunition is just as imporant as the gun itself and that means more than jus t the amount. for pistols and rifles and ur gonna want a one shot kill, and that means incindeiary rounds or hollow pionts. for shotguns u have to consider between buckshot, birdshot, slugs and evreything in between, if its legal where you live and u have the cash on hand to stock up, dragons breath would likely be quite effective at taking out gruops of zombies. hence i would reccomend a remington 870. automatic weapons have legal issues so the m-16 in 3-round burst configuration wuold be a strong alternative and help to conserve ammo. i like the idea of the ship and the semi though. overall not bad
Alright...This entire posting is likely to get anyone killed who tried any of the things the author is mentioning. I think he's on the right track in some places but lets cover a few points.

1. The chances of going to any sporting good store or gun store and actually finding anything is slighlty above 0.001%.

2. Carrying a Desert Eagle or Magnum is probably the worst overall choice for a firearm in this situation. Have you considered the weight of carrying the amuniton here? These weapons have ammunition that isnt common compared to what you would find in the ensuing carnage of police cars, military vehicles etc where 9mm, .45 and .223/7.62 and 22 cal would be abundant - lighter and much easier to use. The weapons recoil alone would impede even the strongest person after so many rounds down range.

3. Trying to post up in a gas station is almost a 100% death sentence. Gas stations are meant to advertise what the goodies are they have inside and how do you tell? Big glass windows and doors. Zambies would be through that in a second. your food stores are atrocious and lighting them on fire with propane? at a gas station? hmm....Side note here. Lighting a zombie on fire is an awful idea. If they are coming towards you then they are more likely to catch your shelter on fire as well which will force you out only to become a zombie cheeburger.

4. The boat. I have often considered this scenario myself but here are your problems.
- you will never make it there with a semi truck - most roads if not all will be clogged with dead vehicles of all sorts. you would have more success on a quad - gator - dirt bike of some sort.
- Can you operate a 300-800ft vessel? I know i couldnt. The complexity is mind blowing. Just getting away from the dock would likely result in disaster.
- Going out to sea for the rest of your lives is really unrealistic. you would eventually run out of fuel, desalizination requires maintanence and you couldnt rely on your skills to handle complex weather.

What i think would be better with the boat idea is to take something smaller, say a 50-80 foot sailboat and limp your way to one of the smaller islands in hawaii that isnt as populated or not at all. If your on the east coast there are tons of little islands dotting up all around Florida. Simply investigate several until you find one that has the resources (water, game of some sort) before disembarking and living the zombie free live.

Good luck!
You Are my best friend now.
life not live**
You don't use a desert eagle you shoot it then it brakes your face becuse of the kick-back it costs $1.45 to shoot so you tell me is this a good idea.
"I am Legend" for a movie refrenc you are stupid zombies don't hide out they wander around looking for prey so I am going on a limb and saying you think it is easy to suvive it's not.
Also 3 zombie types the "28 days Later" is nothing like "I am Legend" zombies

a chainsaw isnt the best option.  it has limited fuel, and generates too much noise.  you can fend off zombies for a few hours, then it becomes dead weight.  plus, the noise basically advertises you as an all you can eat buffet.
yep
not only, when attacking the zombie with a chain saw, you can get blood spatter in your eyes, mouth or nose, alll of which can get you infected.
not necessarily. some zombie survival experts believe that the infection is only passed through bites.
I don't mean to be rude but there is only one type of zombie, if any zombie tissue, flesh, blood, bones, or fluids come into contact of an open wound or other opening you to will become a zombie!
if that's true, then the toxin or virus is produced in the salivary glands. Also, how can one be an expert on something that isn't very ..... well common? Is it possible to be an expert on zombies without well...... zombies? And I ask this with all due respect.
its more like experts on the theory. kind of like stephen hawking with black hole theory.
aaahhhhh, I see now...
It's much safer to move around in a face mask or even a gas mask as it will help prevent blood reaching sensitive areas.
I agree entirely, however, what of the filter cartriges? Have them on or off? And i ask because not using them now, means you can use them later, but if you've seen the movie 28 days later, the father of the girl who lived in the building with the christmas lights on their balcony, was wearing a full head mask, and was wielding a riot shield and extendable baton.
His face was protected by a face shield, something you'd see surgeons using to avoid blood spatter. Nonetheless, a [german] gas mask is the way to go if you want full head protection, only downsides are: optical field of view is very ristricted, and hearing is impaired. Also, you have to yell for anyone else wearing a gasmask to even notice you are speaking. This can be overcome with two way communication radios with mic and speaker in you mask.

And for a base, I think a good base would be a supermarket, like Target. Or maybe a gas staion. Or a gun store. Thx for reading.
That's probably a good idea. My preference is an AK47. With a sniper scope on it(I don't know much about guns, so this probably isn't a very helpful comment.).

What the heck is up with all this 'zombie' stuff? Sounds like a grimmer version of Harold Camping (aka 'On May 21, 2011, the righteous will be saved from 5 months of hell on earth, before God destroys the universe')
As a substitute for a standard gas mask, might I offer this as a stop gap measure:

http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Gas-Mask/

This is not my instructable but, seems like it would help. Also, I plan to head to Home Depot, the one near my house has is a fortress with steel roll-up doors and enough equipment to build anything you need plus a huge plant area with a like 15ft fence, potting soil and, seeds for the long term hold out. I could put expanded steal sheeting around the drivers compartment on the fork lift, and make forays out to pick up other supplies from the surrounding stores. As far as weapons, there will be plenty after the initial event from people who didn't fair as well.

and most likely are all out of supplies by the time you get there.

are you trying to get everyone who reads this...

EATEN ALIVE?!!!!!!!!

THE PLACES YOU JUST LISTED ARE THE ABSOLUTE LAST PLACES YOU SHOULD GO TO!!!!!!

not trying to be mean or anything, just they are REALLY BAD places to go to because they are first stops for zombies....

if we survive 2012

One great place to be is at a Bass Pro Shops store. The one near me has at least 200 fireams and millions of boxes of ammunition. They also have food and water. This place is 2 floors with more that 2 million square feet of equipment.
Be careful because that would be you and a lot of other survivors headed there too. In survival situations people would not necessary be as "nice" to each other as we are now. Some (not all) people could be really dangerous. Best be prepared in your own home.
Tru dat! Gander Mountain stores are good too.
one thing the original ID Software game DOOM has taught us all is that you can take on all the denizens of hell with just a pump action shotgun......

so I would suggest you want damage to zombies go shotgun.....
hahahaha

even the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) in the US are on board with this

http://www.bt.cdc.gov/socialmedia/zombies_blog.asp

But seriously do you know how many specifically coordinated nerve impulses it takes to just walk? I wouldn't be that worried.
Considering I didn't see this anywhere (here and my research on the web) I'd like to mention toliet paper. It's a good idea, if not, ingenious, to get some toliet paper on and for the journey ahead.

i am legend, totally not a zombie movie.
I'm late... But you're totally right. It's a vaampire movie sadly. I think it would've been better with zombies. That way the streets are always packed with infected. Yeah, that's right, make it tough for Neville.

~lols hard~
No, a chainsaw isn't light. It's also noisy and fuel consuming. I'd go with a machete, sabre or a kukri. It's rather short but you can cut the zombie in half with it.
Exactly. Thank you.
