I just posted a similar instructables. Mine goes from the phone end because it was inspired from the need of a digital camera to post instructables. I think the best part is you don't even have to pay for web services. Standard text fees apply!

I understand this works for many providers. There are some that you cannot send a text message from a pc unless you register for an account (free) with the provider. I have a Speakout prepaid phone that uses the Rogers network. I can send text messages to email addresses putting the email address in the first line of the message and sending it to phone number of ten zeros. People who want to send a text message have to sign up on Rogers' page which is hard to find in their website.

Just so you know.

That's interesting... I've never heard of "Rogers". Is that more of an obscure service provider? Thanks for the extra info!

Rogers is a major cable TV, wireless phone and internet provider in Canada. I forgot to mention that Speakout is a 7-11 store brand. In Canada, Speakout's carrier is Rogers. I am not sure if Speakout's US carriers allow texting from a pc without signing up for an account.

That's why I've never heard of it. I'm in the US.

MetroPCS: **********@mymetropcs.com best ways to find out is to have the person who owns the cellphone to send a text to your email. Also try to leave subject blanks. I am use to this method of texting since i do not own a cellphone myself.

That is a better idea than asking them specific questions they may not know... and I do leave the subject field blank. Thanks!

Very helpful.  Now I have to add new email.txt addresses for all my contacts.
