Introduction: How to Tie a Figure Eight Loop

About: The ultimate knot tying tutorial channel. Anything from basic stopper knots, to more complicated loops.

Welcome to my channel How to Knot and in this video, I will be showing you how to tie a figure eight loop. Beyond a general purpose knot, this can also be used in climbing, camping, and sailing. This is quite a simple loop to tie and holds it’s form easily even when stiffer ropes are used. It has an unmistakeable design so it can be easily distinguished from other knots, therefore easily checked during a safety inspection. Unfortunately it’s harder to untie after a load has been applied or even adjust.

Be sure to check out the descriptive video at the end to help for further understand.

Step 1:

First double up the rope and create a bight.
