Picture of How to Tie the Lanyard Knot
Many people including myself have had trouble following the Stormdrane youtube video on tying the lanyard knot so i have done some research and found the solution!

Step 1: Materials

All you need is a reasonable length of para cord or whatever you wish to use.

Step 2: First Step

Picture of First Step
The first thing you are going to do is to make a bight that leaves you with to congruent ends.
Then you are going to put your ring finger through the bight.

Step 3: Starting the Knot

Picture of Starting the Knot
Make a loop just like the one in the picture and place it over the top strand.
Bring the top strand under the bottom strand.

Step 4: The Most Important Part

Picture of The Most Important Part
Now you take the top stand from the previous picture and feed it over the first part of the loop under itself and back over the remainder of the loop.

Step 5: Doubling

Picture of Doubling
Now take the bottom stand and take it around the part of the top strand nearest to the bight and than come up through the diamond shape in the middle.
Do the same for the top strand.

Step 6: Finishing

When you take it off your finger it should look like this.
Work out the slack by pulling on the bight and the two strands.

The second picture in step 5 is not clear enough, possibly because the picture is too small.

done in 1. Excellent instructions, thanks very much.
The first couple of times I tied this knot, I came back to go over your steps. And I could not for the life of me figure out how to make this knot slide in order to tighten a lanyard or drawstring. Until I realized that this knot is the same one that I saw to put some cord on my water bottle and it hit me, I can just put my loop through the center of the knot! And now I can tie it without instruction. It is fast becoming my favorite knot. Thank you!

How does this work for tying a lanyard knot in the middle of a very long rope, say 100 feet, with other lanyard knots tied in it? I cannot see feeding that much rope through the loops as this demonstration shows.
jolora - one of the "tricks" to learn is to push a "bight" of cord through and then pull the long part through - fast and easy, with no extra twists to the cord.

wind the excess cord around a spool so you only have to pull a short bit through
each time....

Eddy, thanks. Kuribosboots, as Stormdrain notes in his blog, there are many differences in how we all learn knots and there he provides several links to different lessons for this knot. Eddy has added another and obviously helped many. I find pictures with multi-colored strands and a single bend at a time helps my poor simple mind a lot. See if this helps: Select "Fifty knots" on the left and then #27 I struggle with orientation more now than I used to. Age I guess. So I copied/pasted the pictures into PowerPoint (or Open Office Presenter) and then rotated them 180 degrees so the orientation is the same as if I was holding a completed sinnet band with the working ends running away from me.

Nicely done! I found out how to tie one, but with just one strand (without doubling it). Your 'ible showed me how to do it with two strands. Goog job.
