How to Use Moderated Groups

Creating the group

To create a new group:

1. Make sure you are logged into your instructables account.

2. From the drop down menu on the top of the page select: Groups > New group.

3. You will be taken to the New Group page. On the New Group page (where you previously only had the option of choosing a group name, URL, and description) you now have the ability to decide if you want to moderate for Members, Instructables, and Forum Topics.

4. Select the check boxes accordingly.

Step 1Moderating the group

Moderating the group

As moderator of the group you will receive an e-mail asking your approval every time someone requests to join or submit content to your group (depending on what topics you have chosen to moderate).

A link in the e-mail will take you to the moderator page for that group, or (another way to access that page) you can click the "Manage This Group" button under the description of the group.

The moderator page gives you the option of managing the group's profile, instructables, members, and forums.

Every request received for a new member/ forum topic/ instructable will show up on the moderator page with the option of approving or denying. If you choose deny, the request will disappear from the page. If you choose approve, it will be added to your group, but you will always have the option of removing it, if you change your mind later.

How do you add additional group managers to an existing group?

Right now only one user can moderate a group. If you'd like to get around this then the quick fix would be to create a new account that can manage they group. Then, share the login and password for that account with everyone that you'd like to be a moderator and you're set to go. I know that's not as good as having multiple moderators, but it's what can be done under the existing features.

Can I make an already existing group moderated?

Yes you can, so long as you are the owner of the group. It's inside the "manage group" link on the group page.

I'm going to make a group so exclusive I shan't even allow myself to join.
