Introduction: Use Your Diving Watch As a 12 Hr. Timer

About: I prefer to make my own things whenever possible.

I love diving watches. Unfortunately, the ring bezel is designed to be used as a 60 minute timer.

One day, as I was admiring my dive watch the light came on and I came up with a way to time up to 12 hours with my diving watch.

Seiko refers to the minute hand as arrow shaped

Seiko refers to the hour hand as sword shaped.

I am not a diver so I don't recommend using this method for diving purposes.

So here is the method I came up with.

Step 1: Closely Observe It

Start observing the position of the hour hand (sword shape) of your watch at 15
minute intervals.

Here is the position of the "hour hand" of my watch at 15 mins. past the hour (one tick mark at any hour).

.

Step 2: Continue Observing

Here is the position of the "hour hand" of my watch at 30 mins. past the
hour (two and a half tick marks)

Step 3: More Observation

Here is the position of the "hour hand" of my watch at 45 mins. past the
hour (four tick marks)

Step 4: Last Observation

Here is the position of the "hour hand" of my watch at 60 mins. past the
hour (five tick marks) or right on the hour.

Step 5: Finally

After multiple observations, you will notice a pattern and you are ready to go.

Whenever you need to time a period greater than an hour, simply move the "triangle" of the rotating bezel and align it with the hour hand (sword shape). This is the start of your timing sequence, when you are ready to stop timing, simply look at where the "hour hand" is pointing to".

So one hour will have elapsed when the hour hand points to the 5 minute mark of the rotating bezel.

Two hours will have elapsed when the "hour hand" points to the 10 minute mark of the rotating bezel..

Three hours will have elapsed when the "hour hand" points to the 15 minute mark of the rotating bezel and so on.

For this timing method, I don't use the "minute hand" for anything, just the hour hand.

I have used this method to time up to 5.5 hours and it works.
